Sunflower Journal, Saturday 2/20/16, week 1I fell in love with sunflowers a couple of years ago and now they are a staple in my garden. I am going to attempt to document my sunflowers in weekly pictures this year. I planted Mammoth Russian. I like the smaller ones too, but I especially like these because the heads are so big. I like the big stalks too. I let them dry out and then put them back on my garden so the organic matter can be worked into the soil. I tried roasting the seeds for myself, but the best use that I've gotten is chicken treats. I'll cut one of those big seed heads off and just put it on the ground. The chickens love it and normally have it picked clean in no time. The weather has been wonderful here, so I put the seeds in the ground last Saturday, 2/13. As of today they haven't broken through the ground yet so the picture doesn't show much.
