Gardens Past

Category: New Yard | Posted: Sun Feb 10, 2008 3:36 pm

I've been planning what needs to happen in my new back yard this spring and ran across these old photos from 1999.

1999 is the first year I gardened and the bug bit me fast! It became a passion. Finally, after many years, I can now start again.

This chair I built for the front porch. I did the artwork from drawings of flowers that where planted in the yard.

This was the front driveway bed. There where three elm trees that where removed (they where really bad off and had to come down). The bed is 30'x8'.

Once it started taking off......

Back yard bed with a tower trellis I built for the Niobe clematis I had planted around it with Miss Bateman.

I had Purple Cone flower, cosmos, white marigolds, lambs ear, and lavender planted around the base.

Dinnerplate Dahlia....I think it was called Thomas Edison.

Vegetable garden.....peppers, radishes, snap peas, and tomatoes.

I love the chair, you do good work!!
Your beds all look so pretty and lush with flowers.
Do you have pictures of the trellis's covered with their vines?
What kind of changes have you made in the years since?

New back yards are always fun, aren't they. I am torn between loving the clean palette of a new yard with all its potential, and a yard filled with things I have planted over time.

Your are quite a good painter. Do you have any other work to show? I am impressed with the look of those flowers you painted.

Good work!

This yard was near Dallas in Irving where my ex wife and I lived. We sold the house and the new owners dug up everything I planted....the front bed was ripped out and they paved it to make the driveway larger! I was sick!

I don't have any photos of he clematis on the trellises. I wish I did!

The old photos brought back a lot of memories.....like weeding with a flashlight at night when I couldn't sleep!

I am still looking through several totes for other photos. One in particular is a set of three Caladium leaf nesting tables I built and painted.

Lovely chair, you're talented! Please show some more of your work. Your borders were nice too.

B, I think they where called snowdrift. They where kind of cream in the centers, but the out petals where bright white.

Beautiful artwork on that chair.

The old photos brought back a lot of memories.....like weeding with a flashlight at night when I couldn't sleep!

DO you actually weed at night with a flashlight. Or do you mean reading?
