New pileated juvenile male.

Category: My Garden Birds | Posted: Wed Jul 14, 2010 4:20 am

For a couple of years now a pileated woodpecker female has been calling for a treat, more or less each day. Last year it brought a young female and was feeding it on the sundeck. This year she brought a juvenile male. We have had the males in the garden but this one was the first to come onto the sundeck. He knocked hell out of the branch he was on. Then we had the Anna's hummingbird in the front garden where I was looking for any insects that wanted their picture taken.

The female woodpecker obviously knows that your place is safe to bring her offspring to. A lovely shot of mum and 'baby' together. You've really impressed me with your shot of the hummingbird as I don't think I've ever seen such a good close-up before.

Great photos! Good picture of the hummingbird. The woodpeckers look very sweet.
