As the name suggests, apple moss, it just looks like a few apples on the end of some stalks. It grows on rock and usually in the shade,

They are so small that you can hardly see them. Apple Moss is a moss with unique spherical sporophytes and yes they do turn red, although I will have to find some when that happens.
