Have to post two today. This varied thrush arrived today. We don't usually see them on the deck till Dec, Jan. As I post the birds the day I take the picture, it had to be another one today. Varied Thrush ( photo / image / picture from Kildale's Garden ) This blog entry has been viewed 257 times

Love these birds. We actually had one in our area a few years ago. It stayed for several weeks, and was a sensation in the bird watching community here! It is rare for them to be here.
I had a short article with a photo of a varied thrush in Bird Watcher's Digest a few years ago. The editor there had never seen one.
Why do you think they have arrived so early this time Kildale? Maybe they can sense there's going to be bad on their migratory routes if they leave it until later??
They are here all year but I think they stay in the forests till the winter arrives and then they come to the gardens. Also, they hang about with the robins (our robins)and been about the same size are not noticed as most peopls ignore the robins as they are so plentyful. Login or register to leave a comment. |
