Damage to new seedlings

Category: general growing conditions | Posted: Mon Jun 06, 2011 4:06 am

Well, I'm finding it very difficult to grow my seedlings this year. I have erected a small greenhouse which is basically four shelves, covered with plastic cover. They are available here in Australia from Bunnings.
I've had mould, the whole thing got blown over and now dried off!
I can't seem to win. So now I'm just keeping it zipped shut at night, and open during the day. Hopefully the latest batch of seeds will germinate, and survive the pricking out process.

Heyyy--What bad luck, Debbie. Well, no need giving up just yet.
Fingers crossed that all will turn out Oké this time.
What al;l have you got planted this time?

Oh, I meant to ask if you have a link for that stand-up plastic "greenhouse" thing that you have. I would like to have a look at it.
How is one supposed to anker it down anyway?

Hi Sjoerd! I've got a heap of veggies trying to grow. Potatoes, broad beans, peas, carrots(just won't germinate!!!), turnip, swede, broccoli, kale, cauliflower, lettuce (curled leaf & hearting), bok choy, beetroot....
Pepino, rhubarb, fennel, and various other herbs, and not least, fruit trees (lemon, lime, fig & mulberry).
The little greenhouse, you don't anchor it. Thus the falling over! Sad! I wasn't expecting the strong winds we received. I've since moved it into a more sheltered spot.

What a mahvelous array, Deb. You guys are going to eat well once those veggies get going.

As I recall it, you generally have reasonable weather there in W.A.

I hope that you will post some piccies of your little greenhouse and its young plants...also when you have set them out in the gardfen plot.

Wishing you lotsa good luck this time.

Thanks Sjoerd, the weather here is usually lovely, however the rainfall here has dropped a lot in previous years, so we're really hoping for a wet winter. We just don't have the water otherwise for gardening.
The pics are on my phone, and for some reason gardenstew doesn't recognize the format, so I can't put them up on the site without a computer, which is in for repair. Sigh....

Sjoerd, I just posted new pics, one of which was the little greenhouse. Not sure how to put the pic on here.
Gotta say, it's fantastic.
