Rainy day!
Category: Vegetable, Herbs, Grapes and other Fruit. | Posted: Thu Mar 29, 2012 1:45 pm Last year we had an extreme drought. It only rained four times here at my house last summer. However, this year we are getting so much rain, I hope my tomatoes don't start cracking. The Strawberries, Red onions, Garlic, yukon gold and red potatoes, peanuts, spinach, herbs, and lettuces are doing really well. I planted them during the fall. My purple broccoli
Category: Vegetable, Herbs, Grapes and other Fruit. | Posted: Sun Feb 05, 2012 3:47 pm My purple broccoli was tasty although it only gave me one head. My cauliflower did the same thing it got huge but after I harvested the main flower, I never got any side flowers. My green broccoli on the other hand keeps giving me broccoli. I harvested every single head I could see on each plant and they keep coming back. I have had 5 good harvests from 4 plants. I always thought cauliflower had lots of side flowers. Rutabagas Poem
Category: Vegetable, Herbs, Grapes and other Fruit. | Posted: Tue Nov 22, 2011 6:17 pm Rutabagas were new to me when I first paired with Jean. At Thanksgiving and Easter dinners her grandpa Frank, her spinster cousin, mom, dad, and a tribe of handsome brothers dined in near silence at a great green table with fierce griffins underneath. I would wonder if their quiet was about secrets or something wrong but now I think it was just how they gathered. Rutabagas were on the table. I had to ask Jean what they were. My first mouthful tasted like something in a gunny sack; nothing like a wine from which an epicure, or would-be epicure, might claim to read the soils in which the grapes were grown. She said she loved their dug-up texture, the hint of dirt that couldn't be baked away, how they left the tongue with a rumor of something underground and dark. Autumn vegetables suit her, I think, and none more than rutabagas, so reluctant to have left the ground. Last edited: Sat Dec 03, 2011 5:29 pm This blog entry has been viewed 478 times

Flashy Troutback Lettuce ( photo / image / picture from rick162iq's Garden ) I also have romaine, gourmet salad bowl, grand rapids, and a red romaine called Outredgeous. They still have some growing to do. Outredgeous Lettuce ( photo / image / picture from rick162iq's Garden ) I'm going to be making lots of salads, sandwiches, burgers, and lettuce wraps with them.
