Vegetable & Fruit Garden 2013

Category: Seeds & Growing | Posted: Sun Jan 12, 2014 1:40 am

I've gotten away from having a garden for the past few years. Thanks to this wonderful forum and those in it; I have renewed my enthusiasm and decided to go at it again. So far I got my potting soil on Thursday. Received my order from Pinetree garden seeds on Friday and my Seedling Seed Starter Trays I got off eBay arrived today. Here's what I am growing this season - Blue Lake Bush Bean, General Lee Cucumber, New Ace Bell Pepper, Orange Smoothie Pumpkin, Gardeners Delight Cherry Tomato, Bonny Best Tomato, Sangria Watermelon and Temptation Strawberry so far.

I am following the Farmers Almanac's planting guide for my area to optimize my success.
My starter trays have 6 pods and I will be using one for each veggie I grow so I have at least 6 plants of everything.

March 2
As the weather forecast calls for more snow; this morning I did my New Ace Green Bell Pepper seeds. I did one tray with six pods. Hopefully they will germinate(fingers crossed).
Next up are the tomatoes next weekend

Planted two kinds of tomatoes today. Bonnie Best tomato and Gardeners Delight cherry tomato

This morning I planted three trays. I did the Sangria Watermelon, the Orange Smoothie Pumpkin and the General Lee Cucumber. They're covered and getting light to help germinate.

April 11
Got a couple of cuke seedlings popping out nothing yet with the watermelon & pumpkin. The tomatoes & peppers are growing strong.
April 13
More cukes sprouting and now some pumpkin and watermelon are starting to sprout.

Every plant is coming along fine and growing. Soon I will start to harden them off to prepare them for transplanting outside. May 17th is our zone last frost date.

May 25th Everything is planted outside plus I picked up 2 eggplants, a Jalepeno and Thai chile at the local nursery to complete the vegetable garden.

June 28th
Tomatoes, Cukes, Watermelon and Green Beans are growing very well. The Pumpkins and Eggplant are slower but growing. The Green Bells aren't growing much and the hot peppers are doing a little better.

July 25th
Here are a pic of the first pumpkin & watermelon

August 2

Been enjoying green beans and cukes so far. Picked a jalepeno & a chile pepper the other day. Watermelon & pumpkin progressing well. Definately not going to be a productive for my tomatoes.I have picked a few cherries but we are having a rather cool summer most days in the 80's only had 3 90 + days so far. The eggplant and green bell haven't shown much besides flowers so far.

Even though I covered it I had to move the windmill due to the wind knocking it down constantly this past winter so I added a bird bath and more flowers

Windmill Project

Category: Spring Project | Posted: Thu Jun 24, 2010 3:59 pm

Decided in May to make a focal point in the yard from the kitch door view.

Many wheel barrel loads of "fill" dirt to create the mound.

Then I added several bags of topsoil and placed the Windmill(store bought). The plants are Yellow Daylillies, Purple Coneflowers(which something later ate) Prarie Sun Rudbeckia and a plant that someone gave which me and I will have to have this forum identify soon.

Some lighting and mulch and I was done.
