Daniel— whilst in Mexico, I noticed that the tortillas themselves were not always made with the same sort of flour. I finally asked a chap about that and he told me that indeed some were made with wheat and some with corn. So I am wondering which type you use or…prefer. I liked the taste of the corn ones better but liked the wheat ones if I was rolling my own because they were a bit thinner and a bit more pliant. **Just as a side note: we have a tortilla-like thing called a roti. The ones we most often eat are filled with lamb chunks with a “gravy”, so to speak along with spud chunks and kausebanden (a sort of long, skinny bean-like veggie). It is a spicy dish, but oh my goodness is it tasty.
Sjoerd, the wheat flour tortillas hold together better for burritos. I think the fresh ones taste the best. I think the corn tortillas are better flavor for tacos and enchiladas, but they don't hold up for burritos, Then around here, there are various unusual types that probably never occur in their homelands in Mexico and further south, such as "ancient grain" tortillas. The low carbohydrate ones are a mystery. I suspect they are a modified starch that isn't digestible so the body treats them as high fiber. I don't like them as much, but in my mission to keep carbohydrates at a minimum, I'm using those. I've never tried roti. Naan is fairly popular here.
Loggiie— what a beaut ! I’ll bet you two will gobble that bird right up today. Bon appétit. Daniel— oh, I really like a good butter nan. Correctly made ones are hard to find here. It sounds like tortillas are complicated there.
Yesterday we had the second Christmas day here. This is what we had: That is a chicken rolade with Swiss potatos and our beans.
That looks yummy Sjoerd. We've had Christmas dinner 3 times now, but forgot to take any pics. Tomorrow it's back to normal.
Hi everyone, hope you all had a fab Christmas. We had a great time with son no.2 and his fiancee and left them yesterday to travel into central London to stay with our eldest and his partner ,she has been visiting her parents and will be arriving home today. We have been treated to fabulous food...some of which I did manage to take a pic of before the temptation for me to tuck in became to hard to resist!!
Loggie- Cheers. Too bad about not taking piccies. Maybe next year…however we all know you are quite the cook, so I can just imagine. BTW— how were those mince pies of yours received? Oreti— that is quite a spread! Well, you lot ate well, didn’t you. Everything looks so nice…and the Christmas crackers! Thanks for the fotos.
BTW— how were those mince pies of yours received? Thanks Sjoerd and the mince pies went well. @Oreti a great spread there.
Made some spaghetti sauce (or gravy) this morning. Added meatballs now on low cooking till tonight spaghetti & meatballs dinner.
@Oreti Your table fare looks quite charming and well made, plus makes my mouth water just looking. Save some for me…YUMMMM …
Preischotel. What work that is ! But the result is so good. Five minutes to go. Garsh, what a smell !
Forgot to post this ,last weekend eldest son and his partner cooked a dish from my hubs homeland that I'm surprised to say that I've never had . Tahchin. Eaten with a mixed Salad.
