Netty— it is a luxury, mate…relish the non- busyness now, for summer is on it’s way.
A pig’s ear for Thunder— He’s making a pig’s ear of that gift, isn’t he.

Netty I hope your eggs are OK.

Here the issue is avian flu. Entire flocks have been decimated. I think (not certain of this) that eggs sold in WA state have to be cage free. That was in today's newspaper. Maybe those are more likely to catch avian flu? I don't know.

Rufus loves pig ears. His main treat is rotisserie chicken that I cut up and make into jerky in the dehydrator. Some people here also like eating that.

Me too Sjoerd. I wonder how it's transmitted? I assume respiratory but maybe they have infected dander or droppings that desiccate and are inhale-able. Beats me.

Good day in town and lunch with a friend. My brother sent me a photo of me from more than half century ago. Didn’t recognize the person. :setc_002:Happy to not be that young :chuckle: IMG_0049.jpeg

Good Saturday morning all. Currently -13°C and clear.
Up bright and early this morning, and trying to enjoy a coffee before leaving for the rink. Saturday mornings are long as we are there from 7:30 until noon. I've packed breakfast and a cup of herbal tea but I'm having a coffee at home first. Then its off to walk the dog. My son will be home with him until we get home.
I have a family friend coming over to look at DH's truck this afternoon. I'm hoping he will purchase it, as he's the only one I can picture driving it. Fingers crossed. I have to get over my sentimental attachment to things, something I've been working on.
Have a great day all :)

Jewell Oh me, oh my Jewell. So attractive!

Netty— good luck with that truck. Nothing wrong with sentimentality, but really— you do need to pare down things that you are not going to use— it does not mean that you do not love your man.
Just be the sensible person that you are.
    Lil hug.

Jewell, I don't see myself in old photos either. and I also wouldn't go back. But I would like to be healthier and less achy.

Good Sunday morning all. Currently -4°C and overcast. Weatherman says there is snow on the way this afternoon.
It was a busy day yesterday ... at the rink until noon, then home to meet someone, then I got right into cleaning out part of the craft room upstairs. It's just such a small room, with so much 'stuff' packed into it, and some just wont be used anytime soon. I've moved some things out to the shed, and all the stained glass supplies out to the garage (which of course means I need to clean out another cupboard in the garage) I'll get this place clean and organized one of these days!
Have a great day all :)

Daniel— I apologise for forgetting to respond to your posting above.
Yes when birds are the vectors that carry and spread diseases the most common way of spreading the various illnesses (including “bird flu”) is in the air. The disease can be found at drinking and eating points…and of course, from their droppings. Sometimes humans or farm animals help spreading the diseases with their feet.

I can remember when I was working in the US, I would regularly have to test patients for common diseases like psittacoses, mycoplasmosis and histoplasmosis were common in that area back then…as well as TB. All this, but I do not recall avian flu crossing over into humans then.

I always find transmittable diseases in plants or animals extremely interesting, and very dangerous.
Keep an eye on those hens…but remember, avian flu cannot be treated with prosecco.

Good Monday morning all. Currently -6°C and windy. I'm battening down the hatches (so to speak) for the incoming storm that is predicted to start this afternoon. Its already starting to blow from the south west, which wouldn't normally be a problem, except for the blowing snow that will fill in the driveway if I'm not careful. Having a long farm driveway, it can blow in quickly and leave us stranded here or keep people from getting in. My son left for work this morning and the driveway was fine, but the blowing snow for the past few hours has almost already filled it in. I'm heading out, for the first time of many, to plow it out. Days like this are hard on my nerves, and the wind is going to pick up to gusts of 90km/hour at times making for a very stressful day for me. I went out yesterday to stock up on gas and diesel fuel for the blower and plow vehicle so now I just need to keep the driveway clear until my son gets home from work. Ugh! 51 days, 20 hours and 32 minutes until spring :stew1: Anyone else counting?
Have a great day all :)

Netty— sorry about the stress, at least you know that it will all end in a bit. It is a positive thing in one sense: you will get experience with your new equipment. Ride on, Snow Queen…ride on !

Good Tuesday morning all. Currently -17°C and sunny. The wind has finally blown itself out.
The winds blew all day and all night, and despite my best attempts to keep the driveway clear, I had to admit defeat at about 5pm. I had plowed several times, and also gone out with the snow blower twice but the winds filled it in right behind me. Told my son to find somewhere else to sleep last night, but he settled on parking at a neighbors and walking home. Now starts the long task of trying to dig my way out. Hoping my farm neighbor and his giant blower will come to my rescue again, because my arms are still sore from yesterday. Oh the joys of rural living!
After the driveway is dealt with, I think I'm going to get back to work on the craft room cleaning. IF I have any energy left!
Have a great day all :)

Things are still a bit frozen but had fog this AM. Maybe it will warm up soon. I looked out the front door and thought that the fall anemones were blooming. Nothing so strange. The dampness had caused the little balls of fluff to open up, so I got to go around and spread seats along the fence line.

@Daniel W yes, Washington state hens need to be cage free, so chicken tractors or large open air buildings.
https://www.nytimes.com/2024/12/24/...luding a,according to the facility's director. Bird flu wrecked havoc on a local sanitary for big cats. Domestic cats have also been victim to the avian flu.

Good Wednesday morning all. Currently -4°C and dropping with strong NW winds.
Mother Nature hates me. I spent a good part of the day yesterday clearing the driveway, shoveling off the porches, around the vehicles, and paths to the woodshed and garage. A friend of my sons came and plowed through the huge drifts in the driveway. I didn't think he was going to be able to but somehow he made it though (I think the secret was the snow blade he was using, that folded in half making a V that forced its way though). Then he proceeded to try to widen the driveway by pushing the banks back as far as possible, which he amazingly did, however not without getting stuck once. Once we were done it was a nice day, the wind was gone and we were able to get in and out. Fast forward to sometime in the night when the heavy snow started falling, and then about 5am after my son left for work, the NW winds kicked up again. I was able to do the driveway with my plow, but I think I'm going to have to go outside and do it every hour or two until the winds die back down or my son gets home from work. At least I wont be lacking things to do today lol
We haven't had this much snow for many years, and in fact my Facebook memories from yesterday remind me it has been 11 years. I hope February is a better month.
Have a great day all :)

Good Thursday morning all. Currently -14°C and clear.
Yesterday was another crazy day of wind and snow and plowing and shovelling. I was able to keep the driveway clear, but as the day wore on it became quite narrow, just wide enough for a pickup truck. I had someone come pick up DD for work so that I could stay home and keep clearing until my son got home from work. Shortly before dark, I noticed an extreme amount of blowing snow and realized my neighbour had come to my rescue with his giant snowblower (again!) He widened the way again, and shortly after that the wind stopped. What a relief! Today, there is no wind and no snow in the forecast, so thankfully I'll be able to go out and do my errands and shopping without fear.
I woke up this morning and realized that my fitbit is missing. I sure hope I find it today, it must be here somewhere!
Have a great day all :)
