Hi Mart, the males are brighter to attract females and most females are browns to hide when on the nest etc. No good shining like a beacon...
We get a lot of these juncos all year round and have fed them for years, but this is the first to come in.
The males black is a lot darker than the female.
Have had a few birds come in through the window for some goodies, but this a first Junco to venture in. [ATTACH]
