I have three plants that are going on their third year. Every couple days a have one to three new Spears ready for picking. Unfortunately I have yet to taste them. My 4 year old son eats them all before I can even get back in the house! :)

your son is wise, eat them before they get cooked..
both of my girls love helping themselves to what ever is growing while we go for our walks....their preferences are lettuce, spinach, asparagus, green beans, kale and carrots.

We planted 25 asparagus (2 year old roots) 4 years ago and last year I was able to freeze 37 packages, sized for 2 people. We have a lot of female plants that I'd like to replace with males but that's probably not going to happen. I do pull a lot of the ripe seeds off and throw them away just so I won't have so many seedlings to try to give away. It's too bad but there's not a lot of people that want them.

I've had about a dozen spears so far. My son ate all of them! Lol.

Some of ours will be third year while some is second year, which I can't eat.
