Toni... would you really be disappointed if a cool front came through and squelched the record-setting trend?
Cheryl, at this point not on your Nellie There had been a chance we wouldn't reach 100 on Saturday but then Sunday would be the start of the extreme heat wave and I just thought we have been through so much of this heat it would be a shame to have the streak broken by a fluke for one day then start up again. But whether it would upset me or not doesn't seem to be a consideration since now the weather guys are saying that we will most likely meet or beat the 1980 record. I just hope don't break the 1980 record for the most 100+ days in a summer.....that is 69 and would take us to Sept 9th but there is still a possibility that record could fall this year too.
Oh dear me, Toni--These are terrible temps that you are having. I would not be happy living in such climates at all. I am wishing you strength to get through these days. 100+ degs.....BAH!
Yikes Toni! I just don't know how I would cope with that kind of heat that long! I could post some snow photos too
I try not to go outside except to move the sprinkler every other day. I am miserable, my mood and attitude is more affected by the heat than anything. This is truly the summer for culling out the non drought tolerant plants in the garden. Even the Zinnias are wilting. The updated week in weather ahead..that 108 could actually be 110+ by the time Wednesday gets here.. Updated temperature for next week ( photo / image / picture from toni's Garden )
Toni... we've got a spare room down here if you start to melt. Our 100F will probably feel like freezing to you by then!
Yeah, I want to know who you all paid to get cooler weather and more rain than me. I am roughly 250 miles north NORTH being the operative word here....I should be having cooler temps at least :'(
Hang in there! It can't last forever. We've also got room for you. My father told me that lots of Texans booked cruises to go see the ice edge up north in summer, just to get away from the heat. Personally I'd pay someone for more heat and sun right now.
UG! Toni I am melting and our temp's are only in the 90's. I should go out and pick some of the veggies but I do not do well in the heat. I really sympathize with how dry and hot it is by you. I love being outdoors and like you I am house bound because of the temp's. I have been retreating to the basement to build a few bird houses as it is nice and cool down there. One shouldn't have cabin fever in the summer. This is ridiculous.
I think Eileen,Droopy,Sjoerd and myself are in the wishing for warmer weather league,..its around the high 60's F,..here in the Midlands,..which is comfortable,..but last summer,..oh boy,..it was beyond the 100 degrees F,..just look at the gauge for June this year,..our warmest so far. 5th June 2011. Philip, our temp on June 5th was 99 so at that date you weren't too far behind us. But I fear we have left you in the dust....or rather we are in the dust and you are having wonderful weather comparatively. Today was 103, it's presently 9 p.m. and still 100 which doesn't seem bad compared to the rest of this week.
How's north Texas' power supply holding up? I'd imagine every household and business would have air-con running 24 hours a day right now.
No problems so far, they have asked everyone to converse as much as possible...turn off/unplug appliances when not being used, run dishwashers after midnight, etc. With normal summers averaging 16 days of 100+ temps and the normal temp from April through September being 95-100 our power companies are prepared for the extra usage. During the record summer of 1980 the office buildings in Dallas and Ft. Worth were asked to turn off as many office lights at night as they could but I haven't heard about that this summer....but it could happen. And since our power grid is not connected to other states we do not take power from them so they will not be adversely affected by our usage during the heat wave.
