I am proud to say I have never set foot in Walmart and never will. Same with Kmart, Home Depot, Lowes, Sams and other big box stores. Just won't do it. They are users of people, sell shoddy material and exist to drive locals out of business. Walmart is the largest corporation in the world and got that way by exploiting workers in other countries and its employees by restricting work hours so they don't have to pay benefits, forcing employees to work 'off the clock', etc. Their workers are often older and have no other employments opportunities, so must accept the conditions.
I believe that Walmart has changed a lot since Sam passed away, and not at all for the better. My personal least liked megastore is Best Buy. I won't deal with them at all.
I understand WalMarts had a big law suit against them for making their employees work on their breaks .If you walk up to an employee that is off the clock for any break and ask them for help they had better help even if they don't get paid for breaks.
Actually, if you or on break, it is still company time because you are not clocked out, if you are on lunch it is appreciated if you help the customer, but you can fill out a time adjustment sheet to get paid for your time, even if it is 5 minutes. I don't know about other WalMarts' but it is a big no-no to work off the clock at ours. They can get in too much trouble with the labor board for that. And yes, a lot of things have changed since Sam is gone, he was an honorable person.
