Lovely! I've only been in AZ once, and that was only in the airport I'm afraid... I used to think it was all "just desert" but lately have been wanting to take a proper tour of it someday. The cacti are tremendous, aren't they?

Many people think of Arizona as a desert state. But, it has many different areas. There is the low desert, the high desert, high country, big pine country, scrub areas. The low altitude desert country has the most cacti. Some cacti simply won't grow above a certain altitude as it's too cold. The high altitude desert has completely different plants. The high country contains the mountains and the big pine country has all the large pine trees. The scrub contains all the little brushy trees and bushes. It's usually breezy and drier here and things won't grow to a great height.
Anyway, Arizona is a very diverse state. Weather reports are given by altitude. Our weather is about 10 degs cooler than Phoenix but about 8 degs warmer than Prescott Valley, where I work. Same with precipitation. It will be raining here and snowing at a thousand feet higher so going to work we change from rain to snow and sometimes back to rain before we get there. But, unless you are above 5,000 feet you very seldom get snow which is the way I like it.
