My day wasn't much of a gardening day. We had a funeral to go to and then the weather was a little on the damp side to do much outside. So I made lasagne for supper and nattered away at not much  . Folded some clothes, read the readers digest and put drops in the neighbors eye.

My day was a bit more interesting...keen gardeners came to look at the jade vine, we ate fresh fruit salad with Chantilly cream, chocolate brownie, mango slice, had a cup of coffee/tea,nattered along about not much and then they left,a good day enjoyed by all.
Can I go to bed now?

Goodness, I forgot to post here last night. I must have been tired. We went to Huntsville and puttered around for awhile.
Today we had to do errands and that took most of the morning. I wanted to do sewing but decided I needed to pull the tall grass around the bird feeders so that cat from up the road can't hide in it to catch my birds unaware. I had only just started when there was a big boom of thunder so I had to quick finish up the area and get things put away. I gathered up my pile of grass and weeds and carried it around to the horses. Neighbor horses, not mine. But, dr feeds them grass every day and they come to the fence whenever they see him coming. I just got back into the house when the rain started. We got a grand total of .13 inches in the rain gauge.
Every little bit adds up though. In the last couple of weeks we have had a bit more than six inches. 3.5, 2.7, .17, and today .13. So it does help.
It's past my bedtime so I guess I'll say good night and have a good sleep.
    goodnight!

My day in the garden wasn't just the garden, but all of it was "gardening". I started as usual getting the chickens fed as I do every morning. today I didn't have to take Caity to school, Kevin did that, then he took her to do her maneuverability test to get her drivers license. Yeah, she passed. So Instead of running for her I started on applesauce again. yesterday I did 21 quarts today I did 20 quarts. kevin helped me pick greenbeans (2 of the 4 rows) we picked 2 1/2 bushels. the peppers, summer squash, zucchini's, tomatoes and apples....oh, no. I forgot to do the swiss chard, (I guess I will get up early to do that) had quite a few customers to wait on, polished a few apples for tomorrow and made supper for my inlaws and us. I am tired, again. off to bed soon, night!

I came here to post and found I missed a couple of days this week. I wonder where they went. I thought I posted every night. I'll have to check my memory list better. Install a new light bulb or something. I've been keeping busy all week sewing because tomorrow is the mini-market. I told a lady I would make a couple farm aprons. They are more difficult to make so it takes me longer to get one done and for some reason I had to take one of them apart two or three times. Since I zigzag the seams after I sew them it's not so easy to take apart. I must be getting old or something. Now, after tomorrow it's supposed to start cooling down and it says night temps in the 40's. Maybe Monday I will finally get outside and get something done. dr has been doing weeds all week with the weed eater. It's looking better. He's been doing the back yard and I want to get the front yard done. The one day I did go out it started to rain on me. Not that I mind the rain but I wanted to be outside longer.
No rain tomorrow, I hope. Or at least later in the day. You all have a good night now. Pleasant dreams.

I brought work for the weekend but forgot the most important homework, cardboard for garden beds. Darn! I've got a big stack of cardboard stashed behind an organizational table at work. It looks like I am a hoarder. Will try and pick it up this weekend.

The sun came out today. Hope it stays nice so I can get a little yard clean up accomplished. Maybe the bean pods will dry out so I can harvest a few more.

Today was mini-market day. We had to get up early and be over there by 8 am. We made it with minutes to spare. It was foggy and cloudy and sure looked like rain. We set out everything anyway and put up the awning. dr told me if it started to rain to move my tables under the awning and pile my aprons on the tables. But, by 9:30-10 o'clock the clouds had moved out and there was blue sky and it was beginning to get warm. It did get up into 90's and then the wind shifted and it began to cool off. Nice cool breeze by the time we left at 3:30 pm. You would think we wouldn't need a rest after sitting all day but it was up and down sitting. Stand up to help someone, sit down, stand up again. Business was fairly steady so we had a good day. It is supposed to be cooler starting tomorrow and going through the week so my goal is to get the weeds all cut down and the flower beds cleaned out and the garden ready for fall planting. It just might take me the whole week, too. You all have a good night and pleasant dreams. goodnight!

It was only 50 degs when we got up this morning and the high was 78 degs at 5 pm so guess what we did today. Yep! We were outside all day. We have the backyard and driveway area all cleared of the big pesky weeds and I have most of the grass cleared along the house and fence lines. I still have to finish the back garden. I started on the front yard but my knees and one hip started yelling at me to "quit, quit." So, I quit and came in and made chocolate chip and oatmeal cookies. Just so we wouldn't sit and eat them all I made up a bag and gave it to our neighbor. He lives alone and I don't think he makes cookies for himself. I haven't baked all summer and now that it's getting cooler I will have to start making bread and rolls again, too.
We will be able to maybe get the front yard done tomorrow or at least make a start on it. If I ever get all the weeds eliminated I can start thinking about a fall garden. It might do better than the summer garden did.

I think I'd better go find the bed now so I can be alert for all the weed pulling tomorrow.
Good night and have pleasant dreams.

We got up this morning and discovered that we must have used muscles that haven't been used all summer. Yikes! So, we took a day off and goofed around. We went down to Huntsville and looked for some good tea because it's time for hot tea in the mornings now. dr brings me a cup of hot tea before I get half awake. He notices me stirring and sneaks out and comes back and says, "There is a cup of hot tea on your night stand. Be careful not to spill it." That wakes me up. All the smaller birds seem to have left when it got colder so mostly we only have cardinals and I've only seen one hummingbird. I think I will take down all but the two smaller feeders in the backyard.
Maybe tomorrow we will be able to work in the yard again. I'm not too sore tonight. I am tired though.
You all have a good night and pleasant dreams.
    goodnight!

My day flew on by again. I started with feeding chickens, again. Then we went to work on collecting enough tomatoes to make vegetable juice. we ended up with 5 peck baskets and there are quite a few more we could harvest, but I don't think we would use it if I made more. I put tomatoes, peppers, carrots, beets, parsley, garlic and celery in the pot. I ended up with 25 quarts canned. then on to the greenbeans we picked on Saturday. I haven't sold them so I canned them. Caity and my MIL came over to help and I ended up with 18 quarts. Then we went to the nursing home and Kevin played the piano for an hour for the residents. My how long and lonely the days get for them. Now I am awaiting the last canner of beans to finish and I am off to bed.. Night all.

I didn't do much outside today. I should water things tomorrow as it didn't rain much this past few days. I cut out aprons and sewed today. I am going to go to the barbecue cookoff at the end of the month and want some aprons that men would like. I was looking at the aprons at the mini-market last week and most of my aprons are for ladies.
I made yeast rolls this afternoon but they didn't turn out to well. I need to buy new yeast. What I have says use by 7-13. I think it's at least a couple of months past that.
You all have a good night and pleasant dreams.

Wow, It is evening again. We pressed 5 bushels of apples into cider today. As I was looking at the pulp I thought "why not cook that down and see if I can make apple butter out of the "left overs" since there is quite a bit of chunks that didn't press the liquid through as we have a hand press not a hydraulic one.... what a bargain idea. It was marvelous apple butter thickness without the cooking it down for hours to get it right. Now I can press my drops, make my cider vinegar and apple butter, too. got to go get ready for church now, bye bye!

It wasn't too warm here today. I sewed an apron first thing while the grass was wet with dew or night moisture. Then, I went out with my trimmers and started going along the front of the house, pulling weeds and cutting tall grass away from the house so dr can use the weed eater there. It ran out of line so we need to get some more. The sun came out on that side of the house so I quit for awhile. We went in to the library and back home. Lunch time. Just sandwiches today. Then, I went out with my trimmers and started pulling weeds in the flower or vegetable beds. I got the long rectangle done today. dr used the weed eater until it ran out of line. I came in and sat and read for an hour and then made supper. Dishes are done, kitchen cleaned up and now some computer time and maybe I'll read some more. I have five books that need to be read. You all have a good evening and night. Pleasant dreams everyone.

I had a fairly busy day. The morning was taken up by house cleaning. I really did a through job today. Just need to mop the kitchen in the morning. I didn't do any sewing today. I worked in the front yard this afternoon with my trimmers and I pulled the grass out of the square flower/vegetable bed. Just have the small triangle one to do. I can get that done tomorrow, maybe. Then, I will hoe them up and rake them smooth and check my seed supply to see what to plant. I have a lot of marigold seeds. They were on sale for three cents a pak. I think I bought 20 or 30 paks. So, with the four flower/vegetable beds and three round beds I will be able to have lots of marigolds. I need to dig up my tomatoes and put them in the big pots and transfer them to the greenhouse. Maybe over the weekend or maybe tomorrow. Depends on how my knees are holding up. dr said he would lift the pots of dirt for me and we have a garden wagon to haul them to the greenhouse. He says he just needs to do a little rearranging and finish the door. I can feed them when I pot them up. I have a couple of other things I can put in the greenhouse, too. So, I still have some busy days ahead of me.
Have a good night all. Pleasant dreams.
