Daniel— the quilt is coming right along, but the backstory on the table and chairs is really interesting. You did a great refinishing job ! Chapeau.
Your craft room looks very nice.

Looks nice, Daniel. I finally got this laid out and will be sewing it together. I meant to do this before I retired, and then during Christmas break. But I started deep cleaning instead and decided to do it tonight. We're having really low temperatures and school has been cancelled for tomorrow. So my granddaughter will be home, which means I don't know how much I'll get done. 17374274547227209468536115356671.jpg

Willow beautifully designed and clever M&M primary colors, including the M&M characters. The fabrics used is also very well thought out. It’s not just squares each section is meticulously thought out. You have a special talent sewing and I am floored with the intricate design presented in the quilt . Lovely :smt055

    Thanks Pac and Daniel.

I actually took M&MS in and color matched them. That was back when Blue was new.

The pattern is Snowball. I have half of it sewn together. I'll finish the other 4 rows tomorrow. I think I'll go see if I can match the m squares for the border. But not until it warms up. Today was 0 with a wind chill of -22 (I think it was). Tomorrow is supposed to be close to the same, which is why there's no school.

I sewed all of the pieces together.

Now it's time to sew together with batting and backing. I tried several fabrics that I already had for backing. The one I liked the most wasn't big enough. I finally settled on a grey cotton material, originally a 100% cotton sheet from a thrift store.

    IMG_0688.jpeg

The batting is also all cotton, my preference. To hold into place, I use the traditional safety pin method.

In the past I tried spray basting a couple of times. I can't handle the solvent, and the stuff is too sticky for me to easily position well. Plus, sometimes it didn't always all wash out. Safety pins are easier for me and my lungs are not affected.

    Next cones the quilting.

Daniel your new patterns and combo colors are outstanding and intricately detailed. What a lovely addition to any room or wall. Precious talents to share . Enjoying them and envious of your sewing skills . I don’t even have a sewing machine.

@Daniel W - I love this quilt. It reminds me of your garden photos....leaves, flowers, bamboo, and even some dandelion fluffs it looks like. I also really warmed to your story of your table. I'm very partial to sentimental and pieces of the past. That's a wonderful table to sew and create on. Must feel comfy and like home there. :)

I was doing the quilting on the quilt I posted earlier, but it gets kind of tedious. So I took a break and finished the practice top.

    IMG_0735.jpeg

Since it is practice for the other quilt, it's not quite as big. That gave room to add a border. Also, the fabric was scraps and pieces I didn't know what to do with. I didn't want to buy anything just for this top. I think it's coming out kind of interesting. Sort of like a collage, only it's fabric.

I joined together pieces of batting, to use up the scraps and so I wouldn't have to buy new batting. It's kind of wrinkly. I hope it will smooth out. If not, maybe I will buy some.

The backing will be a nice flannel I also had on hand.

Next back to work on the other one. I want to get it done.

I also use safety pins, the bendy ones. I use cotton and sometimes if I find good cotton blankets I'll use them for batting. That pattern is really nice.

Thanks everyone for your nice comments! I makes it rewarding to share.

I like that idea. Unfortunately, I havent found any. I thought about a double or triple layer of cotton flannel sheets, but that might get heavy or difficult to sew.

The gift quilt is finally completed. My friend had asked if I wanted to give her a quilt I made, and I offered a custom one. I offered a choice of patterns, and this was sort of a "bucket list" pattern that I always wanted to make but was unsure about the curved sewing. Also, I had her choose from my stash of batiks. She likes colorful.

    Doing final touches last night.

So here is the completed quilt.

What a majestic finished project. Gadzooks! I find that thing quite attractive. …but what a large amount of tedious work, annnnnd to think that you made a practice model as well. Holy needle-work, Batman!
    Chapeau, my talented friend.

Daniel very intricate and well designed quilt. I don’t know how you do it. It looks sooo perfect. That’s a trophy winner if I ever saw one. :sete_005::smt038 The magic of an extreme ‘Quilter’. :smt023 Just Beautiful.
