I crochet, though I'm still a beginner, and can only do really simple projects-- like scarves. I have learned to do granny squares, which can be fun but really time consuming! I also sew, and I made a purse a few months ago that turned out really great. I've never used a pattern. lol. But again, still a beginner. I would love to improve :)

I have been crocheting a lot this winter. I have made many scarves, some hats, doilies, a shawl for my daughter, and started several throws or afghans. I have also crocheted two dolls and a bunny rabbit. These projects involved learning to crochet "in the round" which I had never done before. I have also made baby booties and baby hats and ponchos for my granddaughters. It's a good hobby as yarn is fairly inexpensive. I will be having a new grandson this June and am planning a crochet project for his arrival. My Doc put me on Prednisone in December for arthritis and once it took effect I rediscovered my love for crocheting (and EATING ) I have given away most of the items to loved ones and friends. To me the hardest part of crocheting is deciphering the pattern! :headscratch:

I learned to crochet when I was about 11 or 12 and made shawls for everyone that year (yeah, I'm sure they were lovely... not). I've been trying to get some of the girls at my school to try it but they're just not interested... I guess kids aren't interested in the same things we were...

Yeah I guess crocheting and knitting are perceived as old lady hobbies. I think there is a resurgence of interest though. There are so many more choices of beautiful yarns. Those colorful, bulky yarns make beautiful items. I even crocheted a camouflage scarf for my youngest daughter who loves to hunt. Also you can have a personal, unique item that nobody else has when you make something yourself. What grade do you teach Daisybeans? My youngest daughter just got hired as a fifth grade teacher. She graduated from college in December and I'm so excited for her.
