Really glad to hear you guys are alright. Bad weather can be scarey sometimes. It ws so thoughtful to let folks on here know.
    We'd worry about you otherwise.
    Thanks again.

Well I think we're getting what yawl had, been w/o power for about 3 hrs. Just came back up. And its still raining, but not as hard. Tornadoes have been all around us according to the weatherman. I haven't heard where any have touched down though.

    weather

The weather we had was just some ice - not much - and a few flakes Thursday night. Friday night, we had thunderstorms - in Winter for goodness sake! It was pretty cold, but not really bad weather here in West Texas (I am very close to Lubbock, not San Antonio or Austin). We got 1.26 inches of rain, which we needed badly!! Now, in the Spring, we'll get those high winds from the West, which will kick up some dust from the agricultural fields. When the moisture comes too and we get warm & cold air masses colliding, then we'll get tornadoes. We have a shelter, so if one is coming at us, we have a safe place to go. I have only seen 2 tornadoes in my life and both of those were on the same day back in 1987 - and they were miles West of me.

Yeah, my name is WTxDaddy - West Texas Daddy. I live in God's country, you know. Just kidding. A lot of people don't like this area - rather arid & when the wind blows, it can be pretty strong. But it is generally warm & dry year-round. In Summer, we can sit outside & not sweat. If we haven't had much rain, we don't have many mosquitoes either. Fallis probably the best time of year here - warm & dry, but not awfully hot. I've seen it hit 112ºF here before - when I was out working in the flower bed years ago. I would not live anywhere else. I did not grow up here - I grew up in the desert - El Paso - and I loved that, but El Paso is so big now - like 600,000 people & Ciudad Juárez on the other side of the border is close to one million. Too crowded for me. I like visiting Dallas & San Antonio, but I don't think I could live in either one.

I sure am glad to hear that you all are safe and sound. How long do you think this type of weather will hit you. I hope it is not the whole season long.

    cool

    It's cool, Glenda.

Palm tree, it is too early in West Texas for us to have severe weather. That's start in late March at the earliest and continue into June. Fortunately, those storms are generally rather limited in size. They can make a good mess, but they're not like hurricanes. Tornadoes are indeed frightening, but the chances of being struck by one are pretty small. We have one of those severe weather radios that goes off whenever the NWS issues a warning in our area. It can be annoying in the middle of the night, because all we've heard on it so far is storms far from us, or amber alerts from other places.

I THINK I would rather be in a hurricane area. :-? At least you have some warning and can prepare. Tornadoes form very quickly when the weather is ripe. :-x Not much warning, if any. Large cities and larger towns may have a radar warning system, but smaller ones have to depend on a weather radio. And the damage between a tornado and hurricane can be very comparable and devasting.

    But...

But we don't get a storm surge and hurricanes spawn tornadoes anyway. Tornadoes don't spend that much time on the ground and bounce up into the clouds & descend again. Once a hurricane hits, it's hurricane 'til the eye passes, or it's over. & if it's the eye that gives the calm, it's fixin' to get bad again!

Whew, the news out of Tx has had me really concerned too, my BIL lives in Big Spring where some sort of explosion at a refinery happened- he's a computer geek so I know he's ok but whew, add all this to the "weird weather in 08" category!!!

Fortunately, the bad weather missed the south of Austin area. We had a little rain, very strong winds and some lightning, but no hail or tornados!

Glendann, Toni, and Texas friends, I am glad you are all safe and had no damages! :sete_040:
