I personally like to keep my coffe table neat so I love decorative trays, maybe you could look for something like this.

Love these pictures! I was just about to suggest something like these. Thanks for the pictures. Now, I also got the idea for the best type of coffee table.

This is a very beautiful table. The maximum that I would put on it is a vase of flowers and that's it. It is beautiful in itself!

I have the exact same problem with my backyard garden table! I usually think of ideas for things to put on my coffee table, but my mind stops when it comes to the outdoors. I can help with your problem, though. I love to decorate my coffee table! I think you've already heard about books and magazines, but there are many more things to try out. For example, layering decorative bowls and lace would look A-MAZ-ING! The white shade is so beautiful, by the way. A pop of color should go well with it, especially since your rug is also colorful. You can click here for more ideas, though I use them more for my outdoor table.

This is our coffee table, it's never seen a cup of coffee.

We've always a tray of orchids in pots on it. Only three at the moment, plus the table lamp.
Then it can be a bit of a dumping ground for odds and end. It's a bit unusual as the two halves can be completely closed up or slid away from each other to open up a gp of over a foot to reveal some storage space below. I think there may be a couple of "coffee table books" in there.

Here's a "coffee table book" story.

Our now grown up eldest granddaughter when she was four or five, accompanied her mother when she visited one of her friends. The woman was rather arty and not fond of children. She had an art book on a coffee table.

Whilst the women were talking, the child opened the book and started to look at the illustrations, she'd reached a page which had Monet's Olympia on it. But not all of it. but with a bit cut off the right-hand side. Publishers sometimes crop the photos of paintings to get them on the page.

The woman noticed her looking at the book and said. "Leave the book dear, it's not for little girls." To which she replied "Where's the little cat gone?"
In the full painting there's a cat on the end of the bed at the extreme right-hand side. The woman was a bit dumbstruck, our daughter seized the opportunity and said, "Oh she's into art a bit."

What it was, at the time I had Olympia as my desktop wallpaper and I'd allowed her to use it on a visit to play a game, so she was familiar with the "one old master" and liked the cat.
