Hi. Gulls are great and very graceful handsome birds I think - very clever and learn quickly too.

Sydney I can tell from your comment you aint worked on the water much or you would have a vastly different opinion of gulls.

Hi there. No I have never worked on the water as yourself but can follow what you are saying and know Gulls can be a real nuisance in a lot of ways both to man and other wildlife including other birds - however live & let live - man is frequently a nuisance to nature.
I have only watched them from the garden and whilst birdwatching near water.
Leaving their bad habits aside they are a lovely sleek bird and their aerobatics are great I think. I liked your pics - very good and clear.
A little Gull story. Where I last lived there was a Fish & Chip shop on a main road with open grassland across the road from it. Each day after the lunchtime frying session (mid afternoon) the shop prepared for the evenings business which included throwing out all the fried fish scraps and batter sievings etc onto that grassland. This had been happening for a long time, the Gulls had cottoned on to it and every day they appeared and waited for their daily feast - dozens & dozens of them.
    They cleared up every scrap.
    Best wishes. Syd.

The sea gulls seem to have crapped on this post and brought it to a halt so lets change birdies here is a egret pruning his self in preparation of showing off for the girls. [IMG]

The egret is LOVELY. The last photo is a real gem! :)

This is a Kingfisher. Photo is a tad blurry as I took him way across the marsh and the cropped to get this. These guys are good looking birds but they sure move fast especially when they're fishing.

Am sure there were babies inside the bird house but I didn't see any.

Just passed this guy sitting on a reed

I like trying to capture birds in flight and was going to post this one in the thread about 'Hummers' but that would have been digressing so here it is here.

@cajuncappy - I'm on Vancouver Island off the west coast of British Columbia Canada. Pacific Northwest area (north of Washington State). Climate is very similar to what you'd find in Seattle. Lots of moderating effect due to being so close to the ocean.

@Raddang - Lovely photo! Great capture of wing action of a bird taking off. Nice one :)

More bird pics from this afternoon just sitting in the backyard.
The collared dove sat on the fence and spread its wings to cool down. And kept its beady red eye on me.:)

Birds in flight is a challenge to me and of 130 frames, just 3 had acceptable images, this being the best of a Great Tit leaving the seed feeder, seed in beak. ;).

@Raddang - The Dove photo is beautiful Raddang and great shot of the Great Tit leaving the feeder.

You must have the patience of a saint to wait to get those shots! :)

Am assuming the netting is to keep the squirrels out?

Correct Islandlife. Those little varmints will get in anywhere and clear a seed feeder in minutes. I have to make mesh guards over all feeders.

    Hi. Great pics all.
Raddang. Very keen photographer myself and love especially all wildlife shots from insects to birds animals plants whatever - sadly not able to pursue it any longer so cameras are idle. Note you live in Kent a lovely County.
A few of my old favourite pics follow - have been posted before a while back.

Lovely pictures Sydney Smith:like: I do have some vision issues but still have one good eye so I continue to have a camera with me most of the time. Yes, Kent is a lovely county but I am also a big fan of East Anglia, just don't drive so much now so don't get that way any more.
