Hi Raddang - all. I cannot get out much now with my cameras. However I have had much much fun and enjoyment from them as I have with my gardening - plants and all wildlife are totally wonderful and fascinating subjects - so very glad I got involved and developed this love of it all. Was born in London - lived in Essex 76 yrs and now in Suffolk in Breckland. Love Kent and have had great visits and holidays there - Broadstairs a particular favourite. Will post a few more old pics and look forward to seeing more of your own. Best wishes.
Hi Sydney Smith. (I am going to drift a little in this thread but your mention of Broadstairs reminded me of the day in 1949 when, as a 15 year old lad, I saw the Viking ship Hugin arrive and beach.) Now back to the thread I was born and lived in Canterbury all my life apart from 3 years in the RAF and 3 years working in West London. Perhaps for the interest of our wide family of friends I will post a little about my city in the Village Square.
Hi Raddang. Holidays at Broadstairs (1960's) which was still "amusements/clamour" free were great and perfect for us with two young sons - loved it all - Ramsgate/Margate were not far away if wanted. Visited Canterbury once and most impressed with it all including the lovely Cathedral - this was whilst doing (post National Service) 14 days TA camp at Shorncliffe - Army had to do two years In - three years TA then go onto Z Reserve. Hi islandlife. Ref cameras I have Nikon, Sony, Pentax & Canon DSLR's with wide angle and zoom lenses for each - wanted to try them all. More often used was the Canon for which I have a 50-500 Sigma lens which covers close up or zoom shots - it is bulky & heavy mind and best when convenient used on a tripod - I did though also carry it round the fields and use it "freehand" - could take a pic at your feet or at the distance without changing lenses etc. I must stress that whilst being very keen and love photography I am not by any any means expert - most of it was done on auto which since the "subjects" did not mostly stay in one place for long was ideal anyway. Cameras are not the more expensive ones. Canon EOS 500D - Nikon D50 & D5100 - Sony A350 - Pentax K50. Regards to both. Syd.
@Sydney Smith - Was curious what camera you were using as I use a 'refurbished' Nikon D90 and lately a Fuji HS50 (for the long distance lens). I'm not expert at all either and being lazy tend to use mostly "auto" myself Am quite keen on photography and go through fits and starts of learning a bit and then ignoring it and then getting back to it. I do seem to like taking photos of birds, flowers, landscapes and the grandkids
Hi island life. I liked to photograph all the wildlife from insects through birds to animals etc and auto it has to be because mostly they do not stay in one place for long - its a case of get that shot while you can. I have set up specially for particular varying shots but mainly leave that to the experts Kildale. As always really superb pics of yours. You have this off to very fine art. Syd.
@Kildale - that is a wonderful shot of an Anna's Hummingbird. I get them all year round here. Granted I'm feeding them too so they do keep coming. Love their antics.
SNAP, We get them all year round too. Not sure why though as we sometimes get snow in the winter. Have to keep the feeders clear of snow and change them when they are frozen.
I'm usually good for them not getting clogged up with snow as they're hanging under the eaves. IF I think about it when it is really cold I bring them in at night and put them back out in the morning. The little guys really appreciate them too.
