thanks philip! we do pretty well. what i can't figure out, he does, and vice a versa! :D

tell me more about the electric pond de-icer? sounds interesting, and i think our pond might be small enough. next winter we hope to keep the water going coming down from our irrigation pond above. we didn't leave the faaucet open faar enough and it froze this year.

you do have a lot of good ideas! :D

Bunkie the ideas really come from having ducks throughout the seasons.

My biggest problem was Gray Crows stealing the duck eggs,my ducks tended to lay out in the open and the Gray Crows were very quick to spot this, they were clever enough to take away the entire egg so it took me some time to realize where the eggs were going to.

Here is a link about pond De-Icers and there are lots of interesting tips about ducks in there.

We have very heavy frost and freezing fog here!,just as i was admiring some plants in the garden showing new shoots,at least the Primroses are not bothered with the frost.

Way to go Bunkie! Do you think these guys will produce alot of them? Hmmm--I wonder if you have gotten eggs from your duck-pals already.

Those pics of your working farm were good to see as well. Lots going on there.

I was going to ask how things were going there...but with a hardy brekkie like that--it's gotta be going just fine.

you bet sjoerd! with all the shovelling and wood moving, we sure do enjoy healthy breakfie! the duck eggs are soooo good!

so far we have found one egg every other day. yesterday one was in the water on the edge of the pond. ed thinks that there are some in the pond. we just haven't been able to figure out how to get them out.perhaps we need to buy some waders for us to walk in the pond! we have to develop a tool... some kind of rake maybe...philip, any ideas?! :D

it went down to 17F last night and they have a small stream and puddle to play in for today while the big pond is frozen...again... going down into the single digits for a couple of days...brrrr...at least we're going to have lots of sunshine! :D

I wonder why those ducks don't lay their eggs in some dry corner of their pen. Have you thought of making them a little nesting box? They sell them here, perhaps they do there as well.
Good to hear that you guys will be having some sunshine for a few days.

hey sjoerd, from what i understand, ducks won't lay in nesting boxes! they like to make their own nests. but...you got to remember, these kids are only 8 plus months old and have never laid before. it takes them a bit of time to figure out what they're doing. and...once they've figured out what they're doing, comes the 'hide and seek' game for us to find their nests and their eggs! :D

I see what you're saying, Bunkie.
Well, I reckon that Dutch duckies are different, though. hahaha.
Here is a piccie of the "old-fashioned" type...but there are many.

I am wondering if that duck that I had in my flower garden will return this year.
