Donna, I have done garlic in the past and made powder also. I make mushroom powder also. I have also made powder out of my lime and lemon rind. Man is that great to make lemon chicken with...
DONNA-- Thanks for your tips on the apples. They do sound scrummy don't they? It is amazing what all one can do with the dehydrator. WARE--You do a lot as well don't you. I have to say that I have a very real lust for lemon chicken., orange chicken and lime chicken. I am intrigued by your comment about making powder from your lemon and lime rinds. I assume that you first dehydrate them right...or do you rasp the rinds and then dehydrate the zest?
Powdered Garlic At first I made little cubes of lime and lemons then I dehydrate it. Then, I have a coffee grinder special for citric things that I grind the rinds up in until they are powder. I have also used a rasp and taken the zest that way also. That I freeze.
I really find these postings interesting. Thanks for the text and piccies, Ware. This is a world that I had never imagined. I have been thinking about the mushroom powder that you make and use, Ware. What do you use the powder for? I hate to sound so ignorant, but when i cook with mushrooms, I do it primarily for the texture and a little bit as a complimentary flavour. I have completely never thought of using mushrooms in the form of a powder. Tell me more.
Mushroom powder is great added to butter when pan frying steak in butter. I add it to mushroom soup for stronger flavor. There are lot's of things that you can do with it over the year.
Thanks Ware, I see how and why you use this. I sort of get the urge to eat when I read this. I never thought about adding it to butter. You know, this thread is turning out to be way more helpful to me than I anticipated. I am very appreciative.
