The Hakonechloa is doing well here too. In fact, I have chopped off several portions and given some away...but spread the plant to different corners of the garden. The most recent transplanting was to the tiny, skinny bed in front of the garden shed where we sit for hours. They all took, so I added some more. This plant does exceptionally well here, pity that it is so expensive. I suppose that is because one cannot find it commonly. I have only found it in one place...and that was years ago. I had another look at the pics above and just sat here and marvelled. Your plots really are spectacular. Our volkstuin is nothing like that.
Thank you so much Sjoerd. Your praise actually means a lot. Those photos were taken in 2015. Some of those plantings are overgrown now & need thinning. I retire after the first week in January, so hope to get to it this sprng! Glad to hear you have successfully divided & spread your hakonechloa! I find it a very slow grower here....but mainly because the voles ( they should be called the viles) love them so much & set them back every year. That is great that you have been able to propogate yours.
A slow grower there?! Well, I don't know what I expect, but .... well, I just don't know. Are you coastal at all? I thought that the grass plant did so well here because of the moist nature of our coastal town. It originally comes from Japan and most of Japan is a bit "moist". ..at least that was my experience when I was there.
