Well, in my culture Christmas isn't celebrated as they do it in North America and Europe. Even though in the Islamic faith Jesus Christ is believed to be a prophet from God, and is also said to return on day - However we in Pakistan have the birthday of own founding father at that day. So for us it's more of a national day then a holiday... I guess the equivalent of Christmas that we have are the days of Eid (twice a year actually, according to the lunar calender). So that is the time when we too exchange gifts. So the best gift that I wish for, which all my relatives are fully capable of giving me - Is to not see or hear from them at such days! And thankfully, since the last few years, they too have understood that this is the best gift they can give to me! However, they are always welcome to come over at my place for the Festivus - The holiday for the rest of us! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c8g4Ztf7hIM
Now I don't think I know of anyone that would turn their nose up at a Benjamin Franklin....I never have had a gift like that and I don't think I know of anyone that could afford a gift like that to give to me. :-o
Dh says I'm the only woman he knows that asks for things like new toilet seat-or kitchen faucet. BIL asked what was on my list. Bathroom vent with heater + light. Hinted for heated tile floor-but covered his ears.
All of my family lives hundreds of miles away so unless we visit them or they visit us I don't buy presents. I do send the grand-kids and great-grand kids a favorite cookie I make. Of all things, I send our oldest son his favorite, a 2 pound package of Tillamook cheese as it isn't sold in Tennessee. As for DH and I, we each have large stockings that we fill...BUT..nothing can cost over $5.00 and it has to be something they will like or use. The idea is to try to find out how many things we can get to fit in each stocking.
Now you know another one koszta kid! You made me laugh! One of the things on a Christmas list from two years ago was a toilet seat!! And I actually got it!!
Ronni, DH caught me measuring bath room flooring. and looking up heated floors. Customer bought Scrib to Handy Man for the year. DH just what you need to get ideas.
We just ordered 2 recliners for in our living room. You only have to push the button and it reclines, etc. They were special ordered and it will be a belated Christmas gift....our lab seems to think when she hears our Lazy Boy recliners( that we have now) clunk to go down or up, it is time to pester us to go outdoors...she will really be confused when she doesn't hear it anymore... :-D :-D
Sherry, the couch at my old house had reclining end pieces, and they werecontrolled with the touch of a button, too. I think though that your dogs, like mine, will quickly get used to the very faint sound....as soon as they heard it, they'd spring to attention! If I was getting up, it meant that I MUST of course be going to the kitchen for food and maybe, just maybe, I'd drop something! And if I was reclining, that meant that my lap was once again available, so there they were, bouncing impatiently around waiting for the motion to stop, so they could burrow in.
