Ditto...they're one of my favorite flowers. I've been trying to get some established by my outhouse (that's where they used to plant them in the olden days so women folk knew where the privy was and didn't have to ask!), but haven't had any luck so far. They always reseeded themselves in the other places we've lived, but not here. I'll keep trying, though. Happy Easter everyone!
Those are positively magnificent...I have never grown them but yours are the most beautiful I have ever seen. And the colors...WOW..thank you for sharing..and that one picture it looked like a snail on it...such detail...
I especially love the deep red color and the peach color... oh heck, I love them all. That are gorgeous and so healthy looking. Thanks for sharing.
YOu do have stunning flowers. Exquisite colours - beautiful and inspiring.(It sure inspired Budagardener to paint.) I do not grow Hollyhocks, but I love the flowers.
D2D... They remain standing, as they have very strong and deep roots. The older they get the sturdier they stand. They only list a bit with the strongest of winds.
Sjoerd...do you mean you do not cut them down every fall? or do you cut them down at all? You said they had deep roots, around here you cut them way down to the ground. At least that is what I seen people do with theres....
Thank you guys for all of your very complim, entary commentes. It's so nice of you. Sherry... I do not cut them down in the fall--I let the stalk die-off, and gather the seeds. I do cut the stalks, but I do that in the spring to use them in the bottom of my compost bins. New growth just appears at the base of the old stalks each year. In fact, I have already seen small bits of green leaves beginning.
Okay Sjoerd.....the painting is almost done. I have a little dry time to wait until I can put the finishing touches on the painting! Although I am using the photo of the yellow with the snail....I've left it out of the painting because it was not quite coming out right. I'll be posting it soon for you so see.
