One neighbor, caddy-cornered behing me, has a HUGE area filled with cactus which are over 10 feet tall. How they live in those thorns I don't know but it holds an entire clan of coons. I really don't have any trouble with them because my dogs have killed a few of them that happened to be in my yard when I let my boys out at night and I think the coons have pretty much learned to stay out of my yard. I hate it tho when the dogs kill one and I worry about rabies also. I found a young possum in the back yard last week that they had killed. I know they are just doing what dogs do, but I can't stand to see anything killed (except poisonous snakes) and coons and possums have really been crowded out of their habitat in many areas. If I had a vegetable garden I'd be one of these people watching the wildlife at night......if my dogs allowed wildlife.
