I just wrote you a nice post and it got lost in cyberspace someplace. I am just now getting over that nasty bug, and it is 3 weeks tomorrow. I used up nearly 3 big boxes of tissues too...Thankfully, I am no longer stupped up, sneezing and coughing and choking... Get some nice hot chicken soup, toast and tea to help you out. And some Vick's Vapor Rub too, and cuddly blankets, and let someone else do your work if possible. Take it easy, and I hope you can kick this bug out much sooner than 3 weeks! ((((Hugs))))
Man, can ya feel the love? I really did laugh out loud at this image Eileen. Well, dammit, I didn't hold my breath when I read his last post. I guess that's why I'm sick now. Several of you mentioned coming down with this or having family who have. It's done the rounds of my family and friends too, Capt. Every family member either had it or their spouse/s.o./ gf/roommate did. My closest friends had it, or had family who have been run over by it. I thought I had escaped it. Probably didn't catch it from any of them, but from some random person in a grocery store who didn't cover their mouth while they coughed or something. It seems like everywhere I've been (and I've been to lots of different places due to christmas shopping) all I can hear everywhere around me is sneezing, coughing, hacking etc. Thanks KK. Various of you have suggested different remedies or comfort food. I find the variety of suggestions fascinating. My personal go-to food when I have a cold is chinese hot and sour soup. And carrot juice (instead of OJ) My daughter-in-law suggested a hot toddy consisting of tequila, lemon and honey warmed up. I almost tried it.....maybe tonight. I'll remember that for this evening....I'm all out of hot and sour soup. I very, very seldom get sick, and when I do it's not typically bad enough for me to take to my bed, or the couch. I usually just work through it. But this has really knocked me on my a$$ and I'm not enjoying it AT ALL! It's put a serious crimp in my Christmas shopping and decorating. Not to mention that the family is coming over later today to have a get together to celebrate Devin's birthday. Thankfully his dinner choice is very simple to prepare so I'll be able to pop it in the oven, and head back to the couch. Thank you all, sincerely, for your well wishes.
Have you gone to DR. I didn't 2 years ago in Feb. Ended in hospital. Double pneumonia . Hope you get better.
Oh dear. That's not a pleasant thought...but yes, I've considered it. I've given myself till Monday. If I am not starting to feel better then, I'll be hightailing it in to see the Doc. I'm not used to feeling this wretched for this long.
This is the season that scares me. I always end up with pneumonia even with the shots. Hope your feeling better soon Ronni and let the family take over so you can rest.
Oh no....is Droopy not feeling well? Well, I am pleased to report that I actually feel a little better today. This morning was the first morning in a week where I've woken up and not wanted someone to just shoot me and put me out of my misery. I'm not well yet, not by a long shot. But I can at least see the light at the end of the tunnel now, for which I am VERY grateful. I'm about a week behind on all my Christmas stuff, and I am going to have to go into scramble mode to finish up. The good news though is that I was extra efficient this year, and so at least all my decorating and 95% of my shopping is done, so the "scramble" won't be bad at all.....mostly stocking stuffers to buy, one or two more presents for the family, and one more box to send off. Of course that doesn't include the Christmas baking, which I don't do till the weekend before Christmas anyway. And wouldn't have done it at all if I weren't feeling better....what a way to pass on the Christmas spirit! Here, have some fudge, some Christmas cookies and a generous helping of germs to go along with it!
Easier said than done I'm afraid. It's really hard to not just go at everything at hyper-speed because I'm so behind now. But I'm trying, really I am! It's helped that I'd gotten 95% of my Christmas shopping done before I got sick. Not even counting my own children, just with the 8 grandkids, there's a lot to get taken care of. Grateful too that I got hit with this creeping crud as early in the season as I did. It would have REALLY sucked if I'd come down with it Christmas week! Thanks to all of you for your well wishes and humor....it really did make me feel a lot less wretched!
I hope everyone is feeling somewhat better at least... I am just praying my husband doesn't get it over the holidays. I can't find a quiet place in the house when he starts coughing. So many people coughing in the stores and the people that work there and hand you your change...if I notice someone hacking while in line I will go to another line or look for the machine that helps you. Take care and get well ...
Well, I seem to have relapsed. Not all the way, thank God, or maybe it's just that my improvement hasn't continued. I think last Sunday was the first day all week that I felt like I was finally not getting worse, and in fact felt marginally better. But here it is Wednesday now, and there hasn't been any appreciable improvement since then, and maybe my nose is a tiny bit more runny, and my cough a bit worse? It's hard to tell when you just feel generally wretched. Have any of you or yours had your progress stalled this way? I'm hoping that this is just one of those bugs that has a very slow recovery process rather than that I'm actually getting sick again.
Going to clean My Doctor friends house. And ask what medicine over the counter she said to get. Lost name-some we both can't take because of medicine we take. Getting Chicken to make some home made soup. Need My GM recipe for mustard pack. Stunk to high heaven-but worked. Got bleach to clean bathroom and kitchen. They say to iron pillow cases.
Are you sure it isn't an alergy? Getting better then worse can sometimes mean what you are alergic to is being stirred up again by mild weather. Or the wind direction has changed so that the pollen that was blowing your way wasn't for a while then the wind change brought it back into your area. The crud will fluctuate in severity depending on what you have been doing...instead of resting!! And after it's usual run of about 3 weeks (like Carolyn says) the cough will be the last thing to finally clear up since there is a lot of 'crud' in your lungs to hack out.
Carolyn, toni, yeah you're spot on. This crap I have has been running not quite 3 weeks, and the cough is the worst and the primary thing that's still lingering. My nose is still a little sniffly but nothing compared to the coughing spasms that shake my entire body. The cough is, finally, easing off a bit. Actually it's still as frequent, just more...er...productive (sorry if that's way tmi!) which makes it so much easier to bear. I won't be well by Christmas. But I'll at least be better than I have been, and I'll gladly take that!
