Well, Palm Tree, maybe I should really clarify.... I live in the house where I grew up. We moved here when I was one year old. My mom got it all started back then and added this and that over all those years. I gardened with her as I grew up (a million memories) until I went away to college and then made my own life in other states for a while, had my own gardens. Whenever I came home for a visit, one of the things we would always do was to walk around and look at the things she had done and if weather permitted, "puttered" out there as we called it. She passed away ten years ago and at that time, I decided to move back to Maryland. So I've been working in the yard on my own since then. I've added to some of her plantings and added some of my own. I think of her every time I'm out there. She loved her yard and I do too. I have been thinking about moving to a different state... but I don't know how I would be able to leave! It would be very very hard. Anyway, clarification there -- so you won't think I'm any kind of expert! Just someone with a busy yard and a lot of questions! PS -- I hope your fig tree is OK. Mine don't get bugs so I don't have any comments but some day I will tell you the funny story of my figs. They are threatened by vines, as is everything in my yard!
Ah I see. I am looking forward to hearing all your anecdotes. Vines on the war path - hehehe It must be lovely to have grown up all gardening like and now being able to add on to your mom's garden and thereby honoring her memory.
Ugh, ground zero for vines here.... My back fence neighbor and I are on constant patrol. I posted a photo of the space behind my garage, where I am going to try Lasagne gardening to see if that approach helps keep them at bay. Any other ideas, warmly welcomed! (It's in Garening Other and called Questions about Lasagne Gardening). I have to admire the tenacity of the vines but they would gobble everything up if left to their own will. Hope all are having a lovely day!
