I love it when people stand up and admit their addiction. :D

I'm also drooling over seed catalogues, and I'm the worst seeder I know so it would be wise of me to not order any.

Carolyn, I can understand your frustration with the oven light bulb. When we moved here there were some wierd kind of bulbs in the recessed lighting in the kitchen. We took a bulb into Lowe's, and were told "they don't make those anymore." Well, goody, goody!
Then we went to Home Depot, who told us they were out but could order them and the bulbs would be at the store "in a week or so." I was thrilled. Dining by candlelight is nice, cooking by candlelight, not so mch.
Then I went to our local Ace hardware with my old bulb, and was told they stocked them in 45, 60, 75, and 100 wattages, and which did I want? I nearly cried.

I've got 20 crowns I can start 'harvesting' from this spring. Can't hardly wait! Having never grown it before, I know nothing about male/female differences. Anyone care to educate me?

Well FBG, this is a family friendly forum, so I'll couch the tutorial about male/female in the gentlest terms possible  .
Male asparagus crowns produce more asparagus (against all the other laws of natural reproduction) because they don't produce seeds, which saps the strength of the crown.
Female asparagus spears, when they make the ferny growth, get little red seed pods on them. You can let the pods ripen and self-seed. You get more asparagus plants this way, but not necessarily more asparagus.
The big advantage of Jersey Giant is that it is exclusively male (kind of like a poker club or golf threesome) so you don't have to worry about either removing the female ferny things, or having a smaller harvest because some of the plants are female.
I am thrilled to know someone that admits

It shows a good upbringing and a gentlemanly outlook.
