Well I don't disagree with you one bit! As you're absolutely right about everything - Except for pulling the plug on it... Because that I believe will never happen. As we humans are a very egotistical bunch that are always prone to jealousy. So the cat is out of the bag now. The Jeannie out of the bottle, never to go back in again. Because now all countries have it. So there is no turning back from this. Because the one that will pull the plug on it, will end up foregoing all the benefits of it. Also when it comes to national defense, no price is too high. So it is inevitable. As the ultra egotistical (as well as hyper paranoid) person in charge of that duty, will not see the downside. But will want to outperform his/her competitors on the other side. Therefore the battle is already lost. We can't win it, we are incapable of winning against this. So we only need to survive it. And maybe evolve alongside it.

Actually they can cure the common cold, if they wanted to. But won't, as this is too much money invested in cough syrup, nasal sprays, and over the counter headache pill manufacturing... Which is also why not cure for cancer either, at least not for the commoners. As there is again too much money invested in anti cancer medication that doesn't cure, but just keeps it at bay. And they jubilantly call it "effective management" of cancer. This is how the cancer patients now become the cash cows for big pharmaceutical companies. Exactly like what gambling addicts are to a casino. But just wait until someone in the top-tier of society gets cancer, or AIDS, or something else for which there is no cure. Like say someone in the Royal family - And they are miraculously cured, (but now put on an act to pretend that they too are fighting the battle bravely)! So it's all actually just a game, it always was. Which until recently very tightly managed... Same story when it comes to the petrochemical abd energy lobby. Because had it not been for them, then we all would have been driving electric cars 30 years ago. However now cimes disruptive technologies, like broadband internet. Which is fast decentralizing the stronghold of the powers that be. So first it liberated the media, as now they can't lie too much. As the other side of the story is always uploaded by someone on YouTube. So exactly like that, now we see innovations springing up like mushrooms just about anywhere. Like when some people built an all electric car for themselves which thry charged from their own solar panels, as they were sick of playing for fuel - Automobile manufacturers too (reluctantly) also now got forced to do this. So ungoverned and unregulated innovations for the most part are now going to shape the future. And AI is only going to increase this speed of innovation faster and faster. So will we be able to survive this? Or kill ourselves in the process? Or maybe, just maybe, evolve into something totally unexpected, by merging with such new technologies... One thing is for sure. Which is that the status quo is fast approaching a terminal end. As now the real power of innovation is trickling down to the common person. 3D printers too are fast becoming common for example - Which was never before possible (home based manufacturing) in the entire history of humanity up until now.
I was thinking when will the dinosaurs be brought back? But then I said to myself - Why bother? Let's try creating King Kong, or even better, let's make Godzilla!!!
