The cure for Toxicodendron radicans(Rhus radicans) is plastic bags from the grocery store. First you have to be really good at identifying poison ivy. Next, in the spring, as the new plants emerge, put hands in a bag for each hand. Go hunting for plants, when found, grab plant, invert bag, tie and throw away. A good use for plastic grocery bags. If you are really paranoid, wash your hands after doing away with the plants. If you step in poison ivy with sneakers, everything goes in the wash. Any tools have to be washed.

    The ivy

I didn't know what it looked like way back when when I had 2 terrible experiences. When I use to collect plants out of woodlands, some of them were growing in the stuff, and it was a tough decision, but I ventured anyway and got my plants. There was some in my neighbors driveway where my dog would go sniff, and I'm pretty sure he gave it to me a few times.

I told my neighbor they had some in a shrub bed they were about to clean up. They didn't listen, and she got it from head to toe.

There is a bright side to poison ivy. Being a hedonist, it feels great to run hot water on it.

I had originally learned the genus as Toxicodendrun. Nowadays, it seems so many plants are being moved to different families or given new names. I can't keep up.
