We just got a bit of lightning and thunder in the distance just before daybreak. There's a 30% chance of rain today. But that's about it for us with this storm system.
These are a couple of pictures I took of the back window in a fellow storm spotters car. The hail stone that made the big hole on the right was about two inches (5cm) in diameter. It came to rest under the steering column in the front of the car. The rest of the car is covered in dents and the windshield is also broken. Glad all in the DFW area are OK. We had about six tornados here in our area. On was close enough I could see the edge of the cloud as it traveled about a mile from me. Haven`t heard if it actually touched down yet. Most all of ours stayed in the clouds. Did hear of a few trees down in the town area. We had quarter size hail so garden is looking a bit droopy this morning. Thank God no major injury or death from the storms.
Roy, are you one of those intrepid souls who actually go out and track storms? I can't imagine being that brave! However, I am grateful that someone is and helps warn us craven cowards about storms coming.
Yes, I'm one of the local storm spotters. Spotting is a lot different from Chasing. Storm Chasers go out and hunt the storm, getting as close as possible. Spotters find a safe place, and observe and report. Storm spotting is mostly done through Ham Radio, and is coordinated and structured. I'm not that brave, just trained and cautious.
Thanks to all of you. My son contacted my husband by text and phone shortly after the tornadoes. He is uninjured as well as his friends. My cousin also lives in the area (Southlake) and his family is okay. Very scarey situation and many acts of bravery.
Carol, I'm so happy to hear your son is safe and well, and your cousin's family is, too. Roy, you still are brave--some of us are under the bed with the cat during storms!
