http://www.meijco.nl/schaatskalender.htm Here is another link with the skating events. I can't receive the events on the telly, but I can hear them on the radio. Perhaps this isn't an important tournament, but the one this coming weekend may well be. He heh heh...so you are to be markes as a sports fanatic then? chuckle. Ach, it's just good, clean fun, skating. No hooliganism there either.
Yes, we're not very interested in sports, but occasionally watch if there's something big or supposedly good on. Today is all in the sign of Christmas decorating, and the girls have dug out all the Christmas movies. They don't always watch, but have them running in the background.
Heh heh heh... sounds like things are moving on along now there. The festivness is in the air, isn't it? They have hung light and decorations in the streets of out town. They hype has begun...
We're always off with a leap on December 1st. It's our way of doing it. I'm fed up with Christmas come January 6th anyway, so I might as well get the decor up and enjoy the anticipation along with the girls. Which reminds me, I need to iron some table cloths. Wish I had the patience for embroidery, there are so many nice things to make with thread and needle.
Droopy if the girls really like christmas movies, there is an American movie, maybe you can get it with sub-titles, but its called "A Christmas Story" its about a little boy Ralphie, an his anticipation for christmas. Its so hilarious. even if they can't follow the subtitles the movie itself is just so funny.
Yes, I have seen lots of nice embroidery. They come in sets now, I think with patterns, cloth and thread. The subjects are endless, aren´t they? Whwn I think of Norway, I always think of those beautiful pullover sweaters that have typical patterns. One of these days, I shall come to Norway and when I do, a sweater is the one thing that I shall most definately take back with me. Yeah, I know ...it isn´t embroidered, but emnroidering made me think of it for some reason.
Biita, the film is duly noted. Sjoerd, I'm glad you like the sweaters. I've knitted a few in my time, and might again. They always design new ones, so it never gets too boring.
Yes Droopy, there seem to such a variety of patterns and colours. The man who does the commentating on the skating always wears one when he is in Norway for skating events. Sometimes I feel a bit jelous. hahahahahaha :-D I ment toi ask you, Droopy: do the patterns have any significance or meaning at all? --or are just simply attractive patterns?
I think they're mostly made to look pretty. I've never heard anybody explain about a deeper meaning to them. We didn't get any skating reports from this weekend. How did you do? I expect if we did well, it would have been covered.
Skating: I just turned on the radio and there it was. They gave reports in between songs though. Fri., sat. and sunday will be another thing, though. Yes...I didn't think there would be any metaphysical secrets in the patterns, but I thought I'd ask. They are quite pretty to see. Choosing one would be difficult.
This week-end is Heerenveen, isn't it? I looked through the TV-programs now, but it just says "Sports-Saturday" or - Sunday, nothing specific yet. We're going to make biscuit figures this week-end, so it would be nice with a bit of skating in between all the kneading and rolling. As for sweaters, you just find one that suits you. Easy.
Yes... it IS Heerenveen. I really like it when it's there. The atmosphere is always so good--as no other place. I'm getting my colours out, my reindeer hat and collecting in lots of chips and salties for the coming contests. Laat de Nooren maar komen! Let the Norwegians come! Ha ha ha. What a thing to say about choosing a sweater.... have you ever heard of Tantalus?
Probably to skating what Holmenkollen is to ski jumping then. I have heard of Tantalus, but can't make the connection between you.
Well, you know that Tantalus was given impossible tasks, right....like emptying the sea with a sieve. --so choosing from the hundreds of sweater patterns and colour combinations, is just such a task for me. We here watch ski jumping on New Years' Day. It's becomne a tradition.
Ah, it's like that, is it? I know the feeling. We went to visit a very nice garden shop, and there were so many wonderful plants that we didn't have but really wanted. Trouble was, we had no space for all of it, and had to select carefully. We weren't able to go back the next day either, because it was between six and eight hours of driving from here. A bit too far for a week-end trip, and boring for the girls.
