EJ, I sowed the seeds around mid-February this year. Yes I think you should try it. My latest finding that the Solo species is very common world wide and it is sold in most supermarts. The fruit is not big, about 6~8inches/15~20cm long, maybe you can get the seed from the supermart fruit.

    Thanks Greenheirloom.

Mart, I am sure you can find one in a fruit stall or supermart and in the worst case here I guess -

You are a lucky fella Sojerd to be able to watch them at such a close proximity. In some temple compound in Bali you can see them roosting in large numbers on tree tops during the day, when they take flight in the evening, looks like Batman everywhere! :D

Miss Liberty, you are so right but I am sure that are some members are lucky enough to stay close by to each other and had already shared what was in their garden, some even travelled a great distance to share, right Frank! So don't be surprised if one day I'm in your neighbourhood with a papaya in hand :D Don't worry, I'll definitely post photos of the ripe fruits. Thank you so much for your interest. :-D

KK Ng, the leaves are so neat all on their own even if you don't get any fruit. :)

Thanks Tooty2shoes, glad you like the tree too!

After observing the flowers for awhile with no conclusion, I googled it and found some interesting facts about papaya from the University of Hawaii in Manoa.

Comparing the flowers from the papaya tree to those in the web-site, I believe I can now safely say that the species is a Solo.

I will try to capture more photos of the flowers as they transformed into fruits.

I opened the petals and confirmed that it is hermaphrodite, so a SOLO it must be. :-D

Some of the petals had dropped exposing the papaya.
