Giant Pigeons

    Barb, Those are beautiful. We have a few of them (very few) around here and they are banded. So they must belong to someone or a perhaps a project someone is doing. Unfortunately I saw one got hit on the road a few weeks ago but I couldn't read the band after it had been damaged by the contact with the surface of the road.

    Carolyn the ones with 'bands' are usually racing pigeons and the rings are on them so that they can be returned to their owners should they get blown of course during a race. Some of them can be worth a fare bit of meny - depending on how many races they won and their background breeding.

    Barb, Squab is what you call pigeon meat. Yes, people eat pigeons (also called rock doves) and other doves. I am still amazed at the size of your pigeons. They are the size of the chickens my mom raised when I was a kid. :eek:
