    I can send you all kinds of mismatched socks from here, too. I think they get eaten up in the dryer and that is where all the lint comes from...after the dog hair, of course. Then I have this basket of singles that every now and then gets sent to the file for mismatched socks.

    Holy Cow i didn't expect to get so many responses,.. :D :D ,..oh and thank you all for the offer of sending me your old socks,..washed and unwashed even mismatched ones,.. :rolleyes: .

    Well Carolyn was correct in that i intend using a sock as a sort of growing bag in particular for the Campanula,..the sock being flexible will easily fit into gaps in the rocks and the soil will remain inside,..the Campanula doesn't need a lot of soil anyway.

    Carolyn mentioned using Buttermilk to quickly age the rocks,..yes spread the Buttermilk on the rocks and stick some moss on it before you know it the moss will start making a home there.

    You can also get the same result using Yogurt,..gardeners with statues tend to give them that aged look by using the same methods.

    Eileen and myself are lucky to have a good supply of rocks for the garden from sources at our doorstep,..we could start exporting to Texas Cheryl,.. :D

    Hey Philip, you are so lucky to have a friend who shares rocks!!
    I love rocks too, and collect them. We have an abundance of the pink granite that is found in the soil all around here. It is easy to dig it out of fields.
    I get leftovers from work a lot too.
    I love the wall you built. I wish I could see your gardens in person!

    =======================================================

    Hi Kay,..ah yes i remember you collected stones,..you will have to post some pictures again,..rocks are very attractive in a garden they give that permanent look,..in the west of Ireland nearly all the field boundaries are of rock walls,..i must dig up some shots of this.

    Oh you could always come visit when the garden is in full bloom,..you can bring the new OH as well.

    A neighbor was having an air vent installed on his roof,..i spotted two big roof tiles that were removed and my mind was thinking,..garden,..i ended up taking them away,..16 inches by 12 inches and 2 inches thick with grips on one side.

    One path into my main garden area always gave me trouble with the stepping stones so i took them up and replaced them with the tiles,..might not be to everyone's taste,..but being non slip they feel good underfoot.

    Always great to scarf something up, isn't it? Secure footing is also a priority.

    Ah, you are so blessed with flat ground. I snagged a couple cut outs from some concrete structures DH was installing for a job, so I put them in the chicken yard to use as stepping stones...Well, the first time I stepped on them wet I wiped out in the mud. They aren't level enough for me back there without digging holes to plant them level...Don't wear those crocs on your wet stones either if you have any. They are a disaster in the making.
