Donna, I am sooooo glad everyone is ok! That must have been the scariest phonecall you've ever received! What puzzles me is that they notify closest family by phone, and not in person. Seems rather impersonal to just call. I think over here the police goes to inform family at home. At least, that's how it worked in the past. Cutbacks may have changed all that. Anyway, good to hear they are all on the mend. Take care!
Gardenelf, hereabouts the police phone if the news isn't terrible. If fatalities are experienced, or expected, the police go to the next-of-kin and even offer to take them to the hospital where the accident victims are. It's one of the worst jobs a police officer has to do.
Donna, how scary for you and your family. I'm glad that they are relatively injury-free and will physically heal quickly.Fingers crossed that they can also put the whole experience mentally behind them as well! What will the police do about the idiot in the car who was texting? I expect I have an idea what you would like to do...
Donna, I am SO GLAD your family is all okay. Thank God for that. SHAME on drivers who text/talk while driving!!! [same for drunk/drugged drivers too] I am STILL SORE from a wreck we were in last November. A semi truck was speeding and in the wrong lane on a steep curve in the road. My son was driving, and his car was totalled. Thankfully, we were not hit head on, and we did not land in that deep ravine. The semi driver fled the scene. "Good Samaritans" stopped and helped us out. That semi driver was also taking a local shortcut to avoid the scales, which they usually do when doing illegal stuff. I read a recent article about a woman in Australia, I think it was, who was texting and clobbered a bicyclist, and gave him a spinal injury. She is more worried about her stupid car than the man she nearly killed, and probably maimed for life. She got a few months probation and a measely fine. She was texting. The penalties should be far more severe. I could go on and on with the horror stories of irresponsible drivers...
I know here, they send the police if there has been a fatality of some kind. We had one of those visits a few years ago. The police never ever bring good news. I don't want those phone calls or visits from the police!
I am glad everyone is O.K. They should not make phones work in an automobile, I think we would be a lot safer. Jerry
