God bless your family, and the news that his injuries are not life threatening is good news. There are some great doctors in germany. Gardengater
Prayers said for a speedy recovery...prayers for his family and I hope they can help his vision...((hugs)) Sherry
Sounds like we are finally getting some good news My brother-in-law is supposed to be on his way from Germany to Washington D.C. He will have surgery on his eye at Walter Reed Hospital. He told his wife that he can see out of it a little! I am still unsure of his overall condition. He had to have another surgery to remove more shrapnel. They discovered a skull fracture above his left eye socket, probably from the helmet. He tried to call our house but didn't leave a message. His wife said, "Well that's good, at least he can remember phone numbers" I'm hoping after this they will let him retire. He tried to retire once but they wouldn't let him because of where we were politically :'( This trip to Afghanistan was his 3rd deployment. Thank you all soooooooo much for your prayers, hugs and good thoughts. It means more to me than you will ever know. Deanna :-D
I'm so happy for the good news, and I'm glad he can phone home! Thank you for the update, please keep it up.
I'm sorry, I may offend some...but politically my @ss. It is time for this stupid war to end. At least for our men and women to come home. Deanna, I am so sorry to hear about this. I hope your BIL is doing much better now. And I hope he will be allowed to 'hang it up'. My prayers are with your family. Please keep us posted!
I hope he has a safe trip back to Washington Deanna and that they can operate and save the sight in his eye. I'll keep my fingers crossed that the army now allow him to retire. I think after three tours in Afghanistan that he's done more than his share.
This is some really good news. I hope that all will go well with the further surgeries. You were due some good news.
Good news for sure! I'm glad he will be back in the states with his family. I know this is a huge relief for all of you. Possiably if his eye is not at full sight, they might let him have a medical retirement. That would be nice to not have to worry about him going back over. Question. I thought soldiers were only aloud to go for 3 tours as a max. I sure hope thats the max. I know my son is going to serve one more tour after this one, but he's changing his home base to Germany. So when his time is up, he can cruise around Europe for a little then come home here.
You are all so great!!! :-D My brother-in-law is doing very well. They flew my SIL and nephews back to Washington D.C. to be with him. He had surgery on his eye and they found that there had been some detachment from the retina. They mended the damage and he must lay flat on his face for 2 weeks! When that 2 weeks is up they will operate on his left arm again. Evidently he doesn't have as much feeling and movement as they think he should have. We have talked to him on the phone a time or two, he sounds just like his old self My husband relaxed a little after they spoke. Not only is he his brother-in-law but also his best friend! I'm not sure about the medical retirement yet. I sure hope it comes through though!!! Biita I'm not sure about the 3 time max. Mike is Army National Guard. He's not even regular Army, he's in the reserves and he's been sent 3 times!!!
I'm so glad to hear he's mending and being well looked after. It must have been hard on you all, please try to relax a bit now.
deanna, we're sending all the 'healing vibes' we can from here for your BIL. so glad to hear the good news. i sure hope he can be released and not have to go back. three tours is three tours, well, two tours too many, and that's if one agrees with this invasion, etc... don't get me started! biita i do mail and articles for a veteran site, and i have been hearing from soldiers coming back from 4 and 5 tours. apparently there's no limit. there's this thing the military has called 'stop loss' where they can make a soldier stay in for longer extended tours. to most of us it's like a back door draft. at least they supposedly are shortening the tours from 18 plus months to 12 months, with a year break in between...tho they now are putting those leaving Iraq into Afghanistan. what a mess. my thoughts are with your son and all the loved ones over there that they all come home safe and whole. my thoughts are with peppersage and kuntrygirl in hopes that we can very soon somehow learn to end war and live in peace. keep the good news coming deanna! ps. biita, i wanted to stress that the tours and stop loss and all are all US info...not sure about your counrty...
