I love to give them to my garden birds but they only come in 40g tubs and I can just about cope with that. How many are there in your pics Barb?
There were thousands there and they didn't last long. I have 3 containers going all the time in different stages. Birds eat so many of them and so fast I can't see how you guys can buy them all the time. A container of 100 worms, that's may weigh about 40g, would last about 10 minutes.
Say KM-- perhaps you would enjoy reading this little piece that I wrote a while ago: http://www.gardenstew.com/about21199.html
Great pictures...and nice of you to offer the take-outs...LOL I just don't offer the mealworms here, I just can't see keeping them in my refrigerator knowing they are wiggling all around. I have tried the dried but none of the birds were interested.
Thank you I can't bring myself to keep them in the fridge either so they have to stay in the cool garage until they meet their destiny. I obviously don't have fussy birds as they seem to devour the dried as quickly as the fresh.
Kiasmum...we used to go fishing and my husband put the small red worms in the refrigerator and they came open and spilled. That was the last time anything like that was put in our refrigerator...it was such a mess. I couldn't figure out why the birds didn't like the dry worms but I decided never to buy them again....I am wondering if I would of mixed them with a little canned cat food or dog food if it would of been eaten ?

I wonder if soaking a few of the dried ones in some warm water might help their popularity? If it ever gets to that point here I'll give it a go.
Good Idea but I did try soaking them as my last resort...maybe our birds are just too finicky. I am organic with no chemicals and I have plenty of worms in the ground.Maybe that is it???
