So you've got Norwegian roots? Do you know whereabouts your grandfather's family immigrated from? There are more Norwegians in the USA than in Norway. We celebrate Constitution Day on May 17th. Labour Day is May 1st but it's usually not a big celebration day.
Gapkjern Valley?? Thats only what I've been told.. My family does tend to make things up though. But it is kind of spelled like my last name though!
Hello from Wisconsin! The house that my hubby and I bought 8 years ago was like that. The previous owners had bought it already landscaped, but then let it go wild. Between the thyme, the oregano, and the wild geraniums, I've had a devil of a time trying to wrestle back the gardens. About the only things that I've saved are the grape vines in the back yard. I hope that you have a little easier go of it. Have fun!
If that's the name of the place I'm at a loss. A lot of people from Gudbrandsdalen, Gudbrands valley, emigrated, and there's even a group on Facebook helping people to research emigrants from Skjåk. If you can't find it anywhere, try Facebook.
Re: Hello from Wisconsin! Thank you! FOrtunatly, the people we bought the house from did take care of everything pretty well. The folks we bought the house from, put the house on the market in early April, and they had already bought another home. We didn't move in until a week ago. So, if some of the plants that they have needed care in the early spring months, I'm sure it wasn't their first priority. Oh, well, their mine now
Haha. Like I said, I don't think they really know. They like to pretend, and make stuff up! From my own research, my family roots are from Hallingdaal, Norway. At least that what documentation I was able to locate said. I don't think they believe me when I tell them what I found. I tried to locate Gapkjern Valley through google and didn't find it. Since you don't know where it is.. I'm just going to take that as a family miscommunication. lol
I know Hallingdal, and after checking a map there's a place called Gaptjern near Flaa. So maybe that isn't a story after all.
