After Thanksgiving, we collect clean hay by the curb and spread it over our gardens. Some we keep until Spring, lay it out on the lawn, run over it with the mower and use it between rows of veggies as a weed barrier and to retain moisture.

    Clean hay by the curb?
The only stuff put out on the curb where I live are freebie furniture, lamps, sometimes plants! I got our living room lamps from the side of the road. I have never seen hay though.

Cayuga, people in the US use bales of hay as Halloween decoration and also as Thanksgiving decoration. The following week, they toss it.
