She will continue to do well! With all of the prayers, good thoughts and wishes coming her way there is nothing else she can do. I'm happy she came through the surgery well. Convalescence will be long and tiresome so I will continue with the good thoughts and prayers. dooley

Healing vibes are in the air from me too. I do hope she'll recover quickly and get to spend Christmas at home. :D

Fresh news today. They are hoping to get her out of bed this evening for a few steps. If she will use a walking frame (which she won't because only old people use them...says the 90 something year old) then she couldn't be home in around 5 days. If she refuses to try and walk, which knowing her, she might, she may have to be in for longer. My cousin is visiting her this evening as he lives locally to the hospital, a 3 or so hour drive for me so not quite so easy, so hopefully I will have some more news on how she is doing later. :)

Oh my goodness EJ ,what is her idea of being old :).I do hope she changes her mind as thats what make the elderly bed fast.I wish someone could talk to her and tell her if she doesn't try to walk she could end up in bed forever.

Oh, I am so sorry to hear that..I hope she won't be too stubborn. I had an aunt that fell last winter and she was doing so good and then she left the nursing home to go back home and she wouldn't let anyone in for working with her...she should keep exercising . Good luck with her and I hope things work out for her.

A quick update. She has been up on her feet and is doing quite well. She is telling the docs that she is in no pain, but she is a bugger and will tell them that just so she can get home. They have told her however that she will need a better bed now and a sensible chair to sit on, which she isn't very impressed about. They have also told her she needs a trolley to put her dinner or drink on for example, and wheel it from the kitchen to the dining table rather than trying to carry these things. We will see. Anyhow, Help the Aged, the Social Services, and the sheltered accomodation that she lives in sort all of that out for her. Hopefully she will come home at the start of next week.

I'm sorry, but I can't help giggling when reading about her. Good luck to the doctors etc. on convincing her that she needs the extra stuff in her house.

I did exactly the same thing as your Nan when I had my knee ops. I told the doctors I was in very little pain so that I could get home quicker. Somehow you can stand the pain in your own home much better than you can in any hospital.
I hope your Nan will allow people to help her out though as it really is all for her own good and will ensure that she'll be safe once she's in her own surroundings again.

Another update, and not such a great one. Nan suffered a small heart attack whilst still in hospital this afternoon. They haven't moved her to the Cardiac Care unit as it was a small heart attack and they are concerned that the machines and the environment will scare her so much, it could bring on goodness knows what. However, by this evening she was sitting up comfortably reading the newspaper and waiting for a light supper. I don't think she will be home for Christmas, but they have just had about another 6 inches of snow in Basingstoke and the roads are bedlam, so she is probably safer where she is at the moment. Keep those healing thoughts coming. xxx

Beaming them out on a roll....

I hope that she will be ok and able to get home between christmas and new years'.
What else are they doing for her besides just keeping her in her room and resting?

I hope thsat she can stay cheerful and optimistic.
    How are you doing?

Hang in there, EJ and please continue to keep us posted and don't forget to remind that this little community is pulling for her.

*** doubling the good wishes ***

EJ, sorry to hear of this setback but she appears to be handling it well. Getting her to rest could be a problem from what you have told us about here tho ;)

Sorry to hear it EJ and healing thoughts continue from here... Being in an unfamiliar place can be so hard on older folks. I hope she gets to come home very soon to continue a good recovery... Prayers...
