Well I Never! Look who it is! It's Horace! It's just by chance I noticed him/her. He's drinking water from the pot mover. I put some dried meal worms out for him, which he demolished. So I topped them up with more and some suet pellets and some fresh water. It was getting dark and I took these photos through the glass of our French windows. He's still eating. There is a good place to hide between the back of the rockery and the side fence. The fox cubs liked to go behind there, it was impossible to see them as it drops away for nearly two feet.
that is a 2nd great news from me as well... .just the next day he added a tunnel and he said come and look and yes it could work but he used a black plastic pipe and it looked awful against the wood house. So I said ok fine if you cover it in something available in the garden....then my suggestion was bamboo which we have in abundance growing through from our not so nice next door neighbours with the pesky 4 hunting dogs..not that is their fault of course is is not..wrong type to live in doors and the odd time in the garden...yes so bamboo can be easily split down then fixed somehow around the plastic tube..wire it first like a mini fence...
The hedgehog is a regular visitor now around 9.00pm each night, for his catfood, mealworms and suet pellets. He takes his time, spends about half an hour over dinner. I put his shallow water dish next to his food bowl tonight and he stood in it for quite a while when he was eating. I may be wrong but as they say, "I don't think he's a full shilling." Guess what? I've been "guiltied" into ordering this.
Here's my feeding station and i think that i have more than one, sometimes it's been moved and all the food has gone. The water bowl, yesterday it was nearly empty and very dirty with poo in it.
Thanks for that. I bought it two new shallow flowerpot saucers, one for water and one for the food mix. Last night for some of the time it was standing in the water whilst eating the food!
I haven't seen 'my' hedgehogs this year yet. I'm waiting (impatiently) in the hope that they'll come back before too long. The food and water I put out is never touched overnight. I really miss having them here and hope they will return.
@eileen I think that you'll have to wait a bit because you're up in Scotland, but they will be back sometime. Over the winter had a small mouse in the food for the first time.
Well, I bought a box today and cut a 4.5 inch hole in the front and positioned it as suggested. The entrance is around six inches away from the low wall around the azalea bed. I just happened to see the hedgehog arrive, it was looking for the food in its usual place, turned around a couple of times and must have smelt it a a couple of feet away and it was straight in. It's not a very good photo as I didn't want to use flash. As the entrance will appear similar to the house I've ordered, it should mean it'll seem familiar when it becomes necessary. We've re-named it, 'arry. As we don't know if it's a Harry or an Ariadne.
