Wow those are pretty! Mine are all singles but I can tell I'm going to have to try the doubles. The hard part is deciding which one and where to plant it

Hi Barb,..great variety you have there,..i see in the first picture that one has seed pods,..do you collect seeds and germinate them or are you lucky enough with your climate that they self seed?.

Islandlife,..some of mine i divided,..this year i managed to collect some of the seeds and hope to germinate them,..using the unheated greenhouse,..sowing now should produce seedlings by December/Jan,..the same would apply for purchased seeds.

Philip Nulty, Yes I scatter the seeds, some seeds I start in pots, and some I divide the plants. I can't tell you the names for they are outside and I am inside. I will get out there soon but have too much other stuff to catch up on before I get out to the Helleborus.

Beautiful hello bores everyone! I just bought some plugs last summer. This summer they are all up & looking healthy but too young for blossoms yet, alas.

@ Waretrop - tomorrow I'm going to the nursery to specifically see if they have any seeds. I think (depending on how many seeds there are in the packet - if I find some) I'll scatter a few about the garden and start a few in pots.

See, to me they have to be cheap enough, a few bucks, for a great learning experience. Mark them. I put a ring of little stones around the area I scattered them. What a surprise to have them sprouting up in the spring...I love surprises.....

@waretrop - I love Hellebores - BUT - the main reason I haven't got one to date is the price they sell for here. I've yet to see them cheaper than $12.99 for one in a 4" pot (which strikes me as too expensive). At one of our grocery stores here this past spring they were $49.99 which is just a tad over the top IMO.

Didn't find seeds today but will keep looking and get some in the ground :) Hope I can find a packet of mixed seeds as I know it would be decision time if I end up finding a few varieties.

Is, I meant that a packet of seeds may cost a few bucks. Our plants run from 10 to 40 dollars depending on how new they are. If you want to save the seeds from your flowers you may want to let them bloom next year and as you see the seeds developing you can put a panty hose around the flower to catch the seeds. Then you wold make sure they are dry and keep them in the fridge for a few months then pot them up.

@waretrop - I'm definitely going to go the seed route as they're too pricey here (especially if I can't grow them). If I'm successful with them I'm definitely going to keep the seeds and start more. There are now so many varieties that are so lovely I'm not sure which ones I want hence hoping to find a packet of mixed (if there is such a thing). ;) :)

IL, you may have better luck trying one of the specialty seed houses.

@Cayuga Morning - Am thinking that is what I'm going to have to do. None of our regular places are even carrying seeds now. Am confident I can find some. It is just getting all the different varieties that appeal to me that will be the task. ;)
