Welcome D...greetings from Lenoir City, TN. I had to look on the TN map to see where you are located. We have lived in the Knoxville area for 10 years. We share your red clay and all the challenges it brings. We lived in Virginia for 23 years and dealt with red clay there too. I spend as much money on topsoil and amendments as I do on plants.

Here is an article that may help you with choosing plants.

I have good luck with phlox, coneflowers and viburnum. But as long as you prepare the soil you have a lot of choices.

This is a great website with lots of friendly members who are willing to share their knowledge with others. :setc_005:

Hi D, welcome from a faraway hot land. Put your worries about the thumb colour and just start planting away!!! :) You are in the right place and I am sure your thumb will be green real fast!! :)

gfreiherr We're nearly neighbors! Thank you so much for the site and the list of flowers. We have been planting veggies and berries. I think it's time to start getting some flowers going, a lot of perennials.

KK Ng Thank you for the welcome. I've already been leering over all the plant and seed catalogs. Now I just have to see what the blooming seasons are so I can have color spring through fall.

Jerry, ;) You have hit it dead on. I ask a question and have it answered within a day at most. It's like we're all sitting around a table with cups of tea talking with neighbors.
