Hi Cayuga, welcome from south central MO. I just dug a bucket of daylilies that I planted too near some roses the other summer. I just found out they do not get along well... Now I am trying to figure out where to put them so they can all be happy.
Hi AAnightowl: What kind of daylilies? We put a small bump-out on our house last fall, and I had to rescue some daylilies that would have been buried. Still haven't figured out where to put them....they are in a holding tank, which may wind up being their permanent location unless I act soon! Too bad we don't live closer and we could trade some!
They are just ordinary lilies, but I love them anyway. They sure brighten things up in the summer when other things are too hot and wilty. Two Daylilies ( photo / image / picture from AAnightowl's Garden ) I decided to put them in the flower beds along my road. They are already in and well watered. I am also going to plant the Joe Pye and Stock seeds that I got in a seed swap there. I hope those grow well too. Lilies are not too fussy, just they hog too many nutrients in the soil from the roses. Lilies do not even mind containers to grow in. I have an old washing machine tub full of daylilies. I had to thin those out this spring, but they are all doing nicely.
Pretty photo. Looks like summer! I don't even remember the color of the daylilies that I dug up. I think red, but I was rescuing so much from the bump out that I have lost track!
Welcome Cayuga, sounds like our gardening habits are similar. Maybe even our shady gardening areas as I slowly work in more perennials. Enjoy
Hi Jewell, I bet the shady areas are similar. I am starting a new shade bed, or rather rehabbing an old one. I am looking for plants that are variegated, to give slome light to the bed.
