Re: Hostas They like moisture and shade to part shade, and they want acid soil. If you've got that, they should grow and prosper for you. Some like full sun too. Are you certain that you haven't bought varieties that are supposed to be small?
Hostas They have moisture and part shade, and they seem to start out ok. They were supposed to be big, so it may very well be the soil. I have the same problem with any kind of ferns. Ornamental grasses, ground covers, ect. seem to do just fine.
White pumpkins? I grew some last year but forgot to take pictures of them when they got big. I do have a picture or 2 of them growing though: ( photo / image / picture from Canadian Chelsea's Garden ) ( photo / image / picture from Canadian Chelsea's Garden ) white pumpkins 2008 ( photo / image / picture from Canadian Chelsea's Garden )
Re: Hostas Your white pumpkins are lovely, so decorative and delicate-looking. It could be your summer temperatures as well. Ours are fairly low, and both hostas, ferns and coniferous shrubs grow a lot bigger than they're supposed to. I hope you manage to find out what the problem is.
I'm going to try more hostas this year. I'll see what I can do. They grow for everyone else around here. It may be that I need new locations! Loved the pictures of the white pumpkins. Can't wait to see if we get any this year.
