Capt, was that the blizzard? I remember we were off school for 2 weeks. My husband remembers his dad cleaning the highway around the corner with his bulldozer.

Well, the funeral was not as brutal as feared. We had the committal service in the lobby and the pallbearers took the casket to the hearse and the immediate family only went to the cemetery for a very brief prayer and returned for the meal. Much appreciation from the choir...You can't sing in that weather. It was only 10f. when we left there.

Carolyn, no that was before the blizzard. The blizzard was in 1978 and I stayed in Fla. for that! No way was I coming home for that!

I was little enough that I couldn't remember if it was 77/78 or 78/79 school year. But all I know is I don't like this cold of winter. I saw that the Big Chippewa and Little Chippewa creeks were both frozen over as we went to the funeral this morning and I said to Kevin that it has been a few years since that happened, but I remember them being frozen over EVERY year as a child, hmmmm, I am thinking it was colder here 30 years ago than it is now. I use to go ice skating on the Big Chippewa every winter, now I don't think it would be safe to even test the ice.

I suppose the question is directed to everyone so get ready for this, we have had for the last 2 weeks[never heard of before in this area]
    during the day...
109 f. and during the night..80f.Makes it difficult to sleep without the aircon on, cant wait for the energy bill!
AND dont ask about the garden, or I should say WHAT garden.Under the trees is good but out in the full sun...disappeared!
Orchids and the tropical things are loving it but things like humans are crumbling.

It is 11°F here at 9:40 a.m. It's a typical January temp here. However, this year has been strange because we keep having such crazy fluctuations in temps. Up into the 50s, then back down, then back up; very unpredictable. Last Saturday it was 54°F, and the next day about 18°F.Today, I'm very happy to see the sun!
We did get a little snow and I'm hoping for more to blanket the ground again.

It is 2f. this morning. The neighbor came down and we put the dogs in the big chicken fence and let them play for a while. As soon as we were cold and the dogs were worn out a little, we came in.

Dang, it was 51 degrees when we got up at 7 a.m. and now at noon we are at 65 degrees. We will soon open windows to let the fresh, warmish air in. Our neigbors, who are native Texans, think we are nuts to let all that "cold" air into the house!

I read today that Cleveland has approximately 4000 homeless people  and beds for 2000 on any given night. It is COLD here, I cannot fathom being homeless in this climate. Right now it is 15f. and after the 2f. temps this morning I was thinking it was feeling balmy  out there on the way home from church.

When it gets cold they get call for blankets for shelters.Doesn't matter how much room they have. Forgot the laws name-in memory of man who froze outside one of the shelter few years back.2 years ago one of our older church members fell in his farm front lawn. Very lucky neighbor drove by-2 hours later. Very close.
